For the final class, the teachers were dressed festively. Well. Sort of.

There was some leftover tinsel on them if that counted.

"Congratulations on making it through the class," Magnus said. "We are just super proud of all of you. Right?"

"Right." Would it hurt you to try to sound convincing, Cara? "But that doesn't mean we're going to go easy on you." Which might come as a surprise to those who were used to her Onsen-based finals.

It was okay, Magnus could just make up in earnesty for her.

"Nope! Because this island doesn't go easy on you either," he said. "Sneaking donuts into your shoes. I mean. I really liked the latkes and the bears, but things could go way worse."

"Did you punch the bears?" Cara asked in an undertone. Because bears were for punching. "Worse than you could ever imagine." And by now they should be able to imagine a lot.

"Nah, I like bears. I got this cool bear mask and everything. We just rassled." Not wrestled, mind you. Rassled. "So, we brought you cookies!"

Awesome segue, Maggie. Just spot on.

"Yes." Enthusiasm, Cara, it was possible to have it. "However to get them first-"

Cara was cut off by the appearance of a giant snake with metallic scales. Hey, maybe that had something to do with your final!

"--you gotta go through this guy," Magnus said with a wide smile.

Well, at least the class was always interesting?

"Welcome to our last class of the semester," Hannibal said. "Today is traditionally for exams, and I hope to see that you have all retained something of what you have learned throughout our time together."

He pressed a few buttons and the rest of the room turned into a disaster - specifically, a ski resort that had been half-buried by avalanche, at which point a fire had broken out in the kitchens. The sunlight on the snow was near blinding, there was a leak of some sort of gas in one corner, and there was a truck on one side that had been transporting venomous reptiles that had apparently escaped.

There were people throughout it all - broken, bleeding, frantic, catatonic, half-buried, burned, and/or suffering from exposure.

"Save as many as you can," Hannibal told them.

Something had just seriously fucked with the wards that John had scattered about the island, and so he roused himself out of his apartment and in to work, throwing wide the doors of the library, and heading straight for his office.

It had felt nothing like anything he knew, which was both concerning and fucking annoying.

He had to make some consultations. Hopefully Zee wasn't still pissed about that one thing. Or the other one.

Either way, the library was open. Ish. Open-ish.

The class met in the Danger Shop this last time. It was set up as a giant chamber full of consoles and controls and screens and a giant window from which you could see the stars all around.

And then there was a desk, behind which Atton was sitting with his feet propped up on it because, duh, of course.

"Hey," he said. "I figure most of you deserve a passing grade just because this island hasn't killed you yet. And most of you were pretty good last week. You wanna shoot for the stars and get higher than passing, you can try and get off this space station. You don't, you can go home right now."

Beat.

"I'll buy free pizza for anyone who kills off the mistletoe while they're at it."
