Cara's class were back in the Danger Shop this week, where a training dummy took centre stage.

"Building on last week's class, given that people are capable of convincing themselves to do all manner of idiotic things, sometimes that leaves you a position where you have to find a way to stop someone who has decided to do the stupid thing from doing the stupid thing." She meant with force. "I mean with force."

"Though since it rather defeated the purpose if you permanently damage someone while saving them from themselves, it's a good idea to practice first." She slapped the dummy on the shoulder. "So you're all going to take turns trying to incapacitate the dummy, which has been programmed to give feedback on if your chosen method results in maiming or death."

"Okay," Kanan said, grinning a little as the students congregated for today's portal, "this week, we're going to do something a little different. We're going to take in the wonders of Earth's wildlife... without actually leaving civilization."

He was kind of proud of himself this week. He'd thought this one up himself, after an inspirational cinnamon-bun-powered stroll with Steve a few weeks back.

"This week, we're going to the zoo. Um, not the one in Baltimore, though. It's a little cold there right now."

"The San Diego Zoo is famous for good reason," Hannibal said. "It houses a large number of exhibits and species, and was one of the pioneers in cageless, more natural habitats."

"For those who, for whatever reason, might not know what a zoo is, it's... kind of like a living museum. A place where people have collected multiple species of animals for educational and entertainment purposes, and people walk around and... look at them, mostly." Kanan shrugged. "This one, obviously, houses Earth animal species, as well as botanical gardens. The zoo not only participates in conservation programs for animals, but for plant life as well."

"Please obey the signs, don't feed any animals you shouldn't, and don't go anywhere you shouldn't." Hannibal was mostly looking at Kanan there, yes. "Otherwise, enjoy."

Apparently, today was a brownie holiday, because the bakery had them on sale. So, there were multiples plates of tasty chocolate squares on the table, along with the usual pizzas and salads waiting for everyone in the council.

"Good afternoon, thank you for coming by today," Zoe said. "As some of you might be aware, next week is Valentine's Day, and we traditionally have a dance to celebrate. Things were clear for next Saturday, so the dance will be then; we just need to decide if we want to do anything special, or just dip into the decoration reserves for all the lovebirds."

"Sometimes the most difficult thing to do is maintain a straight face during negotiations," Anakin said, "especially when they are saying something absolutely ridiculous."

"That can range from discussing lunch options with a colleague or boss, to attempting to discuss world affairs with another head of state," Obi-Wan said.

Not that he'd been watching the news. Much. "How does one approach such a situation? Do you keep a straight face? Do you refuse to speak further with this person? There are a range of possible strategies, but some may be better than others."

"It may also depend if it's a face-to-face conversation, or one where you might be able to regulate your voice but still roll your eyes at idiocy," Anakin said, explaining why many of his comm calls weren't done with the hologram on.

"We would like you to do a roleplaying exercise today," Obi-Wan said. "You will both play world leaders. One of you must behave outrageously: make illogical demands, perhaps, or insult your mother, something of the kind. The other must deal with them in pursuit of their goal: a trade treaty about... hm, let's say the orange industry."

Anakin snorted. "That seems like an excellent choice, Master."

"Attempt to reach some kind of agreement," Obi-Wan said. "Afterwards, tell us how it went. What worked? What did not?"

If there was anything strange going on in the library today Lucille didn't notice. As soon as she had taken a seat behind the desk she found herself very sleepy, and shortly after just resting her head against a pile of books in front of her she was asleep. Only when her shift ended did she wake up, her neck stiff from the awkward position. She hoped no one had stopped by. That would have been embarrassing.

[Open library, but please mod it if you need it. I am so tired today.]
