[The Final Job]

Hardison was bouncing on his toes when the class entered into the Danger Shop today. The final was bringing him right back to his childhood and it was amazing. Of course, it was possible that they might not notice their teachers, not when the Danger Shop itself was transformed into a heavily bastardized version of a Mayan Temple, complete with talking stone head. Granted, this head bore more than a passing resemblance to Eliot at his scowliest.

"Sup, class!" Hardison said, grinning. "Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Final )

"Right," Hardison agreed. "So the winners are the first team that makes it up to the Observatory an' back out again with the beetle, hitting the gong to show they're done.."

"It ain't as easy as it sounds," Eliot said, still side-eying Olmec like crazy. "That thing is damned creepy," he muttered to Hardison.

"Aww, but it looks just like you!"

"IT'S A GIANT FACE MADE OF STONE." Eliot clearly didn't think much of that comparison, no.

Bond was nowhere to be seen today, because apparently the final of a class about deception involved getting your students to come in while you had a bit of a lie in or letting them think that while you monitored from another room, but who did that, really.

There were however a number of tables set up with decks of cards and poker chips a note up on the whiteboard telling them to do him proud.

"Hey everyone. We've arrived to our last class together," Clint said, and his frown was only slightly exaggerated. "Rather than have a formal final, I thought we'd have one more session of asking questions, since it went, uh, really well the first time." Clint defined 'well' differently than other people. "But this time I want all your questions to be for me. Is there anything we didn't cover in class that you wanted to learn? Is there anything we learned that you still don't understand? Now is the time to ask."

Bob looked downright gleeful as he greeted all the students. "Well! Finals time, is it?" He clapped his hands together. "Let's see how much attention you've been paying."

The Danger Shop resolved itself into a city with a large, wild-looking park. Both parts were fairly well-populated, and about one-third of that population was...different.

Zombies, vampires, demons, giants, dragons...if it had been covered in class, it was there.

"Points for killing or neutralising them," Bob said. "Extra points for converting them to help you. Minus points for dead civilians. Enjoy!"

Welcome to your final, class.

"Okay, did anyone else go past that weird-ass tree in the park yet today?" Josh asked. "It's covered in birds and crap."

Sounds appealing, Josh.

"Anyway," he continued, flopping into his chair, "I'm looking forward to everyone's final project about selling this school to people who've never heard of the place. We'll go alphabetically, so Anders, you're up!"

Josh took a sip of his coffee and prepared to be entertained.

The class met on the Causeway, where the portal to the promised amusement park awaited them.

"A few rules before you run off," Ghanima said cheerfully. "No getting arrested, be back at the portal in four hours, and try not to get caught stealing candy from babies."

Note how the instruction was specifically not to get caught doing it. "And whatever you do, please don't burn the place down," Tahiri added, and if she looked a little bit uncomfortable it was because she had shoes on. "And have fun, of course. If any of you have trouble with large crowds, let us know, and we'll make sure you get somewhere quieter."

And that was about all that needed to be said. The rest was up to the class.
