The classroom today was decorated with haybales, corn husks, and cinnamon brooms, as well as a thorough spattering of glittery autumn leaf patterned confetti.

Because all those were TOTALLY appropriate in an area where they might end up baked into a cake. Or pie. Or muffin. Or donut. Or -- look, today's ingredient theme worked with MOST THINGS, okay?

Just accept the fact that you'll all end up consuming glitter at some point. Think of it this way, you will have festive times in the bathroom now.

"Since everything is pumpkin flavoured right now, we're going to talk about that," Derek said. Because he was getting right to the point in case Pinkie got stuck on a pumpkin loop like the rhubarb.

Please. "Pumpkin" was not a classic word used by actors in the backgrounds of scenes. Just hope they never do a class featuring peas and carrots.

"It's usually just the spices in pumpkin pie that are used," Derek added quickly, making a face. "And orange food coloring."

"But sometimes it's also really really pumpkin, especially in baked goods!" said Pinkie. "Pumpkin is actually totally full of healthy vitamins and thingingingings." No, there was no reason for that many "ings" on that word. "Today we have ingredients to make all sorts of pumpkin or pumpkin spicey things!"

Seriously. They had so many things to make today. Because it was finally cooling down enough for all the baking. "We brought pumpkin lattes--" A decision Derek was regretting the more the pony drank of them. "--for you to sample as you pick what you want to make. There are cupcakes that you can augment however you want…"

"And COOKIES!" Pinkie cheered. "And some bread which I'd probably put icing on but that's 'cause I like to put icing on everything and it probably doesn't even really super need it --"

Someone should probably cut her off. Her sentence and from the lattes.

Derek reached out and put his hand over Pinkie's mouth before this went completely crazy. "Bake. Go bake."

Apparently the notice that she'd gotten the library aide job had somehow gotten delayed on its way to Cosette, so she'd missed the previous week's shift. (You couldn't even blame Éponine for this one, either, since it was an office paperwork thing.) And she felt bad about that, but still! She got to spend the better part of an entire day every week around the books! Certain people who were innocent of any hitches in mail delivery this time around would undoubtedly still be ragingly jealous of that.

She left a small basket of homemade (well, common-room-made) baked goods outside the librarian's office door as a sort of apology for missing last week, then got herself settled behind the circulation desk. She'd spent plenty of time in the library already, but she wasn't used to seeing it from this side of the desk.

Was it sad how fascinating she found just that change in perspective?

"After a fairly...trying...weekend," Anakin said, running his hand through his short-cropped hair, "I could certainly use some time meditatively hitting things." He waved his hand toward the boxing gloves and headgear piled in the corner and waited for everyone to get equipped before continuing. "So today we're going to work on some self-defense boxing techniques. Boxing is extremely pragmatic--if it doesn't work, boxers don't use it. It also is focused on arms and protecting the chest instead of kicking like many martial art techniques. With so many of you being novices to self-defense, I figured it would be easier to concentrate on one body part at a time."

Anakin led them through a quick series of basic one-two combinations, then put them up against the heavy bags. "You can either spend your time here or head to the more advanced area where the Danger Shop will give you a holographic opponent who might look a lot like the characters from the 1980s version of Mike Tyson's Punch Out to spar against. The key to this is to keep moving. Don't just stand there and get punched, okay?"

Once again, Anders' valiant ability to press play was being called upon if he was there. There was a note on the door when the students arrived for class.

Hi! This is past-Navaan talking. I'm pretty sure present-Navaan is gonna be really hung over today so here's a movie to watch. It's about why you need more than one character in your book, or else it's going to be boring. Like this movie. But you have to watch it because I'm a teacher and I say so. I tried to find the one about the girl on the island with the dolphins because she wanders around topless, but you're stuck with this one instead.

Happy drinking! (That's to me.)
