"Good morning everyone," Riley said once the group had come into the Danger Shop and settled down. "Guess you know what we're gonna be doing today, right? Today, we're heading for Alton Towers in Staffordshire, United Kingdom for our next roller coaster."

Riley started up the simulation but kept talking as he did. "We're going to be experiencing The Smiler today. With 14 inversions, The Smiler holds the world record for most inversions on a roller coaster. The Smiler features two lift hills, the first being a conventional sloped lift hill and the second a vertical lift hill. The original plans showed a minimum of eight inversions in the outdoor section, including a unique intertwined cobra roll and batwing, a sea serpent roll and two diving loops. There are also six additional inversions, including two inverted drops (after both the first and second lift hills), a heartline roll found in the dark ride section, a corkscrew after the batwing element, and two corkscrews following the cobra roll prior to the end of the ride. This additional inversions raised the total to 14, three more than any other roller coaster in the world."

The simulation was going now as Riley finished up. "A key feature of the ride is the large spider-like structure with an approximate height of 15 feet. Called ‘The Marmaliser,’ it has 5 legs, each with a distinct function to manipulate riders into "smiling". The roller coaster intertwines within the structure causing greater interaction with riders to enhance the experience. Hope you enjoy!"

And with that, he let the students head off.

There was only one teacher at the front of the class today, and Hannibal nodded at the students as they took their seats.

"Good morning. Mr. Starsmore is...indisposed in one of the ways unique to this island, which is to say, he is currently a snake, and so will not be here today. Hopefully, he will return next week. I had hoped to be able to find a full range of music for you all, but my knowledge of the sorts of music he prefers is dubious to say the least."

He waved at the stations he'd set up around the room. "So. Today we will try something different. These are all connected to a number of music sites from around the Internet. If you need help navigating them, please ask. Sometimes the best way of finding music you enjoy is to discover it yourself. So, listen to whatever you like, browse through the music. Your assignment for today is to find at least one song you enjoy that you did not previously know, and to play it and explain why it is that you chose it."

Welcome to Hannibal's idea of a movie day.

"Sorry I missed last week, guys," Ben said from the front of the room, smiling apologetically. "There was a suddden attack of...cat. Fandom, right? Anyway, today we're going to do some really basic practical mechanics today: stuff you probably either do already or need to know in the dorms. We're going program a DVR, work a Blu-Ray player, and troubleshoot a wonky laptop. Just as a reminder, if any of your real stuff gets to be broken beyond your ability to fix it, you can either stop by my office during the week or wander down to Stark's in town. I worked there when I was a student here."

This week, class was meeting in a regular classroom again, and Kate was perched on her desk, giving the students a little wave once they'd all come in. "Hi, and sorry about last week," she began. "Got sick, it was terrible. But I hope you had a good time with my boyfriend, and that he didn't blind anyone with his paleness."

Sorry, Bod, you really were terribly pale.

"Also since the topic was awesome in relationships, he probably undersold his own skills because seriously, dude came out here in my stead to teach you guys. He's awesome in relationships defined." It was possible your teacher was head over heels in love, kids, yeah. Feel free to double check that that cute ring really was on her middle finger instead of her ring finger. "Anyway, yeah, I hope you had a good time and that it was educational. 'Cause we're gonna move on now. And because my last week was decidedly unawesome with the sickness and all, that's what we're gonna cover today."

A beat.

"Uh, things that are unawesome," she clarified. "Not my illness, you don't need to hear crap about that. Anyway, yeah, sometimes you just need to be able to spot the things that aren't awesome in order to stay on a course of awesomeness. And that's not always so easy. Because things might seem super awesome when you're putting on a costume and posing for paintings and making like music videos and stuff, but it can turn out way less so when you have lame and skeezy dudes Skypeing you." True story. "So what I wanna discuss today is how to spot potentially unawesome things. Situations, relationships, maybe even just picking the wrong thing to drink at the wrong time, whatever you can come up with. Or you can just keep it general and talk about how something potentially unawesome might make you feel and how that could be a warning sign. Any ideas?"
