The Batman's run with the Cubs during spring training was kind of confusing because he wasn't invited to be on the team and he certainly wasn't signed to a contract, but boy, could he sock some dingers, and that helped him stick around. But after a week, it was as if he remembered that he had more important things to do. So he packed up, put his cowl back on, and returned to Fandom.

It was okay, everyone. Batman was back and everything was back to normal.

"Bonjour, classe," Batman said, in an outrageous French accent, his dialogue poorly written as if it had gone through some sort of search engine translation. This probably explained why the Danger Shop looked like a French public space rather than an urban American rooftop. "J'espère que vous avez apprécié les vacances de printemps. Mais le temps de repos est terminée et maintenant nous devons être de retour au travail! Aujourd'hui, nous allons discuter de la façon de construire la grande arme de la justice commune, la guillotine."

If you followed any of that, you probably knew you were in for a hell of a class. And if you didn't get into it, heads might roll! Oh, Revolutionary humor.

Seriously, though, he started telling you how to build a guillotine, so you had better start getting supplies together from that pile at the edge of the square.

"Well, vacation's over. What a sad thing, right?" Riley asked, sighing and shaking his head. "Luckily, you've got this awesome class to come back to so maybe it won't be so bad. Anyway, today we're gonna be playing Double Dragon."

Aw yeah, fighting games for the win. Perfect for the nerd who needed to release some rage.

"In Double Dragon, the player takes control of martial artist Billy Lee, or his twin brother Jimmy (also known as Hammer and Spike in the supplementary materials for the American arcade release), as they fight their way into the turf of the Black Warriors gang in order to rescue their common love interest Marian. Yep, they both love a girl and they team up to get her back. Kinda weird but...brotherly right?"

It probably wouldn't work that way in the real world, of course. "The game is divided into four different stages or "missions," which consist of a city slum, a factory, the woods, and the gang's hideout. The game normally ends if a single player defeats the final boss alone. However, if two players manage to complete the game together, they are then forced to fight each other in order to determine who will win Marian's affections. So, maybe I spoke to soon, huh? No sharing allowed in video games even back then!"

Riley chuckled. "So, that's what we're gonna be playing today. It's a fairly long game for its time so we probably won't beat it but feel free to team up and play or play alone. Have fun!"

Class met in the Danger Shop today, which had been programmed to resemble a stretch of sandy beach. Three seven-foot-high nets stretched across part of the space, and Jack idly tossed a white ball between her hands as she waited for the class together.

"Hey," she said. "I am not ready for break to be over, so you guys get beach volleyball today. It's kind of like regular volleyball, except you play two on a side and you can get a sunburn doing it." She quickly went over the rules, then tossed the balls to the students.

"Now, pair off and play. I programmed some opponents for you into the Shop." She hit a button on the control panel and revealed pairs of person-sized badgers standing on one side of the nets. Because this was beach volleyball, they were of course nattily attired in swim trunks.

Jack pursed her lips, hit a few buttons. "Right. Looks like we're stuck with the whatever-those-things-are. Play ball."
