Oz had his class meet him in the Danger Shop today, inside was a mass of consoles, cables, controllers, and screens, as well as a number of desktops and handhelds, and even a few arcade cabinets here and there.

"Morning, kids," Oz greeted them, half his attention on an old Starfighter cabinet. "So, video games, probably one of the most interesting mediums in terms of modern pop culture, and one highly relevant to your generation, however some of you technically aren't from your generation, so this week is going to be a bit of a crash course for the newbies, and getting acquainted for the not so newbies. What we have here are most of the major gaming platforms, along with copies of best selling games or their appropriate metas for each of them. I want you to spend this class playing them. Use a couple of different platforms, and play a bunch of different games, rather than just sticking to one, and try to help each other out if anyone has trouble figuring out anything."

"At the end of the class, feel free to talk with the other kids about anything in particular you noticed, and we'll go into more detail on the subject next week."

"It occurred to me," Jono mused as he stepped into the classroom for today's lecture, "that while it's easy enough to get you to put together emergency kits for my class covering the defunct support reserves, and to tell you to swing blunt objects around for the martial reserves, it's not half as easy to teach you all how to make use of powers in the event of an invasion. Most of our students don't have any, after all. And my own knowledge of how powers actually work in a fight scenario is limited to a few very specific skill sets. I can't even really start listing off specific powers, because every world that has them differs in how they manifest, from magic to mutations to realities with everything in between."

He pursed his lips momentarily, wondering how the hell those in charge of the magic reserves actually managed to come up with all-inclusive exercises. The answer, of course, was that everyone attending them had powers.

Sigh.

"Today, we're going to just have a discussion class," he shared. "Share your experiences with powers, be they magical or biological, with the group. It can be a simple explanation of what abilities people have in your world that go above and beyond what a baseline human might possess. You can reminisce about what your feelings were, the first time you witnessed somebody using powers here on the island. If you have powers of your own and you're willing to discuss them, you can do that, too. I want to keep today's class fairly open-ended, and exceptionally open-minded. Detention goes to the first person who says anything vitriolic about other people, powered or not. I'll not tolerate any sort of prejudice in my classroom."

He wished he didn't have precedent to set a rule like that. He really did. But, well... mutant.

After the events on radio earlier this week, Kate figured this probably triggered the 'T' part of 'TA' and got to the Danger Shop early.  A few minutes of fiddling around, and she managed to access Clint's training dummies and moddable weapons scenario.

She waited until the rest of the class arrived then said, "So Clint's kind of...indisposed.  I put up his 'practice defending yourself' programming, but I was thinking a little more broadly - spend today's class doing something to make yourself better.  If you want to leave and do something somewhere else?  Cool.  If you want to spend an hour writing porn on the internet, that works too.  You don't even have to share.  If you need anything, I'm going to be over there."  Kate gestured towards the archery range where her bow was waiting ever so patiently.

When the students arrived for class today, they might notice the seven five-pound bags of flour neatly lined up on the desk. Their purpose would not remain a mystery for long. “Parenthood,” Steve said. “Some of you may come from cultures where it’s common for teenagers to be parents, even expected. Some of you do not. So we’re not going to talk about teen parenthood in particular, but rather the teamwork and partnering that is involved in childrearing. To that end, you have a project for this week with a partner. Your co-parent, if you will.”

“I have been informed that these,” Thor eyed the bags of flour dubiously, “are often employed in this particular educational ritual, symbolizing the child borne of your... union.” He shrugged slightly. “That it is not a living child is not important. What is important is that you pretend for the purposes of the assignment that it is. Think about your philosophies and preferences when it comes to child-rearing. It is possible that you may come in to conflict with your partner, even over something as simple as who will look over your ‘child’ while you are both attending classes. How will you solve these potential problems? As Mr. Rogers said, you must work together as a team. This may mean compromising your position in order to find something mutually agreeable.”

“Remember, in addition to your teamwork, you’re responsible for the wellbeing of your ‘child,’ Steve said. “That means you should be able to account for its whereabouts at all times, and it should not come to harm in any way. The bags have been marked so that we will know the one we receive back next week is the same one we gave you. Anyone who cooks their child will automatically fail the assignment.” Yes, that had happened. “When your names are called, come up and collect your ‘child,’ and then discuss how you will handle your duties. Maybe name it."
