When the public speaking students arrived at the Danger Shop, they would find the space converted into what was clearly a wedding reception: '80s and '90s dance music playing, kids running between dancers, older folks staring disapprovingly at the appetizers and muttering about how Swedish meatballs had been fancy enough in their day, and a bride and groom off in a corner getting their picture taken.

"Hey there," Josh said. "Today we're going to work on what will probably be a speech each of you will have to give in your lives: the wedding toast. Granted, you will know about having to do that for at least a month in advance, but let's be honest: you're going to be writing it on the back of a napkin in the restroom waiting for the photographer to stop taking pictures of the mother of the bride. I'm going to give you ten minutes and one admittedly fake cocktail to write your speech. To make it more interesting, here's the scenario you have to work with: you haaaaaaaaaaaaaaate the person your best friend is now married to. Plus you've now had that cocktail. Cause a scene, don't, it's entirely up to you."

He smiled a little fiendishly. "Enjoy. Oh, and you press secretaries today are Loki and Sparkle, so that should be fun."

"Today, we start with the metalworking segment of this class," Kaidan said. "Since that intersects a lot with your battlebot assignment, I... think it's time to start getting a little more focused. So. We're going to start out with some sheet metal, and we're going to see what we can do with it. You can use it to outfit your bot, add some decorations... make sure nothing falls out of it when you use it..."

Because that kind of thing was useful.

"You all have a sheet of... sheet metal in front of you," he said. "We're going to start out with drafting. You've got rulers, you've got your metal pencils... okay, it's a little 21st century, but I'm working with the tools we've got, here." No, really, GFFA types, he got you. "But that doesn't change the fundamentals. The idea is that you sketch out geometrical shapes that you can later fit together to make a 3D case, like if you want your 'bot to look like a dog, or... a box or something. You have to be really careful your measurements fit, though, or you're going to be spending a lot of time slicing things down."

He patted the sheet in front of him.

"Now, I want you all to grab a piece of paper and sketch out a possible casing for your battlebot. If you actually want to use it, I'd say keep it simple. If you don't, go wild. Then take the drawing apart. What kind of shapes are you going to need? Once you get that figured out, you can get to work sketching on the metal, slicing the shapes out, and welding them together."

"Now let me walk you through the machinery..."

Wow, when the FHLC arrived in the Danger Shop this week they'd find the simulation controls had actually worked for their leader this time around. There was the field, a simulated audience, and an equally simulated opposing team, who all actually looked like normal teenage lacrosse players instead of randomly purple folks in mascot costumes or the like.

Jackson was looking pretty pleased with himself. You'd allow him that this once, right?

"Today, we're playing a match," he announced, once everyone was present and warmed up. "There are simulated players around to fill up our team, but most of them are ––" Greenberg. "–– not great at this. The opposing team is no state champion, either, but it's on you to try and win this thing, not the sim players. Do your best. Now, let's play."

And all that without anything going wrong! Maybe this week would actually work in Jackson's favor!

(Spoiler alert: it would not.)
