"Happy Valentine's Day, kids," Oz greeted his class. "Last week, you all hopefully learnt a little about how movie censorship works in this country, this week we're going to look at one of the two elements of a work most likely to draw some kind of censorship. These two things are sex and violence, but since you're probably going to be thinking about the first outside of class today, inside it, we're going to be looking at the second."

Oz likes talking about violence, go fig. )

When the students arrived at the Danger Shop today, they'd find it set up like a few weeks ago, with a variety of targets, training dummies, and the weapons.

Except this time, there were also boxes of chocolates set out. Hurray, discounted holiday candy!

"Hey folks. I figured it might be a good idea to get some more defensive practice in today," he said, feeling much more confident about the Danger Shop's programming this time. "If you want to use a different weapon this time, you can, or stick with what you picked last time to try to get better at it. Oh and, uh, try not to get chocolate on anything." In case that needed to be said.

Class was once again being held in the Danger Shop, which this time around was done up to look like a fancy ballroom.

“I am told that tonight’s festivities are being held to celebrate a Saint Valentine, who is traditionally associated with romantic activities.” Thor said to the class.

“That’s correct,” Steve confirmed. “Getting into the theology involved in yesterday’s holiday isn’t necessary, but this is a time to celebrate the one you love and give them gifts.” He paused, then added, “Today is also a great day to pick up chocolate half price, if anyone would like to know. But the main attraction of the day is the dance.”

“Which brings us to today’s topic!” Thor continued. “Dancing! It is not strictly related to sexual education, but it is about providing pleasure to your partner, which is always important!”

“While that’s not exactly how I would have phrased it,” Steve said slowly, because, well, yes, “Thor’s right. It is important to be considerate of your partner while dancing and make sure you’re both having fun and not getting your toes stepped on, and those lessons carry over to other parts of relationships as well.”

Thor pressed a button and a pair of holographic dancers shimmered to life. As music began to play, they demonstrated a sequence of steps to the class. If either teacher thought it was at all odd that the male dancer was wearing a Marie Antoinette-esque ballroom gown and the female a punk rock costume, they weren’t saying anything. Once finished, they took a quick bow and then disappeared again.

“Pair up and practice,” Thor instructed.

“And again,” Steve said, “Do try to avoid your partner’s toes.”

After class, when the students went to leave the Danger Room, they would find a small table by the door with a bowl of condoms on it. No commentary. No judgment. It was just available. Because of reasons.

This week, the classroom setup was pretty straightforward. It was the day after a frustrating Hallmark holiday, there was a dance coming up and Jono was still sore from the beating he'd taken from Jubes on Tuesday. He reserved the right to go as low-effort as he could manage, this week.

"Our topic for the day is supposed to be teamwork," he said, launching into his lecture. "On teamwork, and strength in numbers, and how we can't be expected to carry the weight of the entire world on our shoulders, particularly if there are people there with you who are willing to help you lift it. For a lot of you, 'accepting help' and 'swallowing your pride' are more or less synonymous with one another, and I sympathize with you. It's difficult for many to accept help when what needs to be done is something that they feel they ought to be able to handle on their own."

Jono, for one, was terrible at it. He wouldn't deny so if somebody called him out on it, either.

"Sometimes, it's easier to think of it less as accepting that you can't do something alone, and more as... thinking about how much better something might turn out if you add the skills and knowledge that other people have to offer into the situation, as well. Granted, all of this banks on your ability to play nice with others, but that seems to be something that most of you have figured out. Good job."

Little victories. Jonothon would take 'em where he could find 'em.

"This week, the assignment is fairly straightforward. Sit down and write down two lists. The first should be a list of strengths that you possess, things that you could bring to a group in a crisis situation here on the island. The second, of... not even necessarily weaknesses, but of things that you might want to seek out assistance with, all the same. Each list should have at least something on it. And if you want to work in pairs or teams in order to write these lists, then all power to you."
