Oz had his class meet him in the Danger Shop this week. "Hey, kids, I was going to use the fact it was Superbowl Sunday the other day to segue into a discussion of the commodification of modern sport, but apparently it was one of those weekends, and who knows how many of you actually watched the game, so instead we're going to watch a movie. Nothing to do with sports, but it's relevant to some of the things we'll be discussing next week."

Today, there were sandwiches and salads laid out for the Student Council members' lunch... as well as chocolate chip cookies, because Zoe and purely healthy meals were just not a suitable match.

"Good afternoon. Our focus today needs to be on next week's Valentine's Day dance," she said once everyone was settled in with their food. "We need to decide if we want to have a theme, or just cover everything in pink and hearts and whatever else goes with the day. God knows we've got enough glitter lying around to do just about anything. I figured it would also be a good idea to sell flowers again. People seem to like sending them and getting them, and we can use the money for--well, anything but glitter." No, really, Zoe was beginning to wonder if it had all bred somehow while she was away. That was a reasonable explanation, right?

When the students arrived in the Danger Shop today, they'd find it set up kind of like a classroom, but with comfy chairs, a television, a DVD player, and no sign of Clint aside from two notes. The note on the board said:

"This movie is a great example of someone improving himself pretty much just to prove that he can. Also, it's a classic that's older than all of you, so enjoy it."

And the note on the DVD said:

"Kate (or someone equally smart): Please make the movie play. I trust you know how a DVD works."

At least he said please?

"Communication," Jono announced as he walked into the classroom today. "I'm doing it right now. Lord knows some of you do it during my lectures when you roll your eyes while I'm speaking. It's that little touchstone that lets us all get across everything from 'I'm hungry,' to 'there's a giant scorpion around that corner, you might not want to go that way.' And, during a crisis situation, it doesn't become any less pivotal. The trouble is... for all that people are excellent communicators, sometimes our messages get a little mixed up in the giving, particularly if they need to travel between several people before finally making their way to their final destination."

He gave a little grin, picking up his cup of coffee.

"Have any of you played the game 'telephone?' One person starts with a message, and they whisper it into the ear of the person beside them. The message travels this way all the way around a circle until the last person shares what message they actually received. It is very rarely the same message that the game started with. Today, we're going to do a take on that. I'm going to get people to stand out into the hallway, and then I'm going to give one person who stays in here a message. That person will relay that message to the next person to come into the room, but they have to find some way to do it that isn't just blatantly speaking it to them. They can pick up a phone and give this person a phone call. They can write it on a piece of paper. They can attempt to pass it on in a single attempt at charades. If they have certain powers, they can just telepathically share what they think the message is. The sky is really the limit, here, just so long as you're not looking that person in the eye and saying, 'The message is...'"

He gestured with the coffee to the door.

"Once the message is passed along, the person who shared it will leave the room, send someone else in, and it'll be up to the person who entered the room before them to pass on the message, next. Let's see by the end of the class just how garbled your messages can get. And then if any of you did last week's 'get across the island' homework, feel free to tell me what you chose to do."

"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, everyone," Jessica said. "But we're going to have to do a little bit of actual work today, because we have something to cheer."

Loki just beamed at that. "We shall cheer on love."

It was possible his smile was one of schadenfreude.

"Next week is that speed dating thing at the karaoke bar," Jessica said, trying to avoid specifics so she could ignore the fact that she'd ended up participating last time through no fault of her own. "And that can be kind of a nerve-wracking thing." Not that she had any experience with that. "So we're going to help encourage people. Or, at the very least, give them something to gawk at so they have something to talk about right away."

"It will be good practice," Loki added. "And we need all that we can if we wish to make regionals."

What were regionals? Had he been watching those cheerleading movies again? Was Beyonce's little sister in one of them? Yes to both. Regionals, however, would remain a mystery.

Jessica gave a brief questioning look since she'd never heard him say the word 'regionals' before. She hoped this wasn't going to be a Thing. "So, we have the uniforms you ordered and a thing to wear them to. And that means today we're going to have to do a few routines. It won't be anything too bad, I promise." After all, if somebody did a lazy cartwheel into a zombie, who knew where a rotting arm might land?

"Oh, and we must come up with cheers! Either ones that rhyme or insult our opponents." But who are the opponents in a speed dating event? Loki, you need to stay off Wikipedia.

"... Not opponents. Don't heckle the daters, people, even if you really like one of the pairings," Jessica sighed.
