"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, everyone," Jessica said. "But we're going to have to do a little bit of actual work today, because we have something to cheer."

Loki just beamed at that. "We shall cheer on love."

It was possible his smile was one of schadenfreude.

"Next week is that speed dating thing at the karaoke bar," Jessica said, trying to avoid specifics so she could ignore the fact that she'd ended up participating last time through no fault of her own. "And that can be kind of a nerve-wracking thing." Not that she had any experience with that. "So we're going to help encourage people. Or, at the very least, give them something to gawk at so they have something to talk about right away."

"It will be good practice," Loki added. "And we need all that we can if we wish to make regionals."

What were regionals? Had he been watching those cheerleading movies again? Was Beyonce's little sister in one of them? Yes to both. Regionals, however, would remain a mystery.

Jessica gave a brief questioning look since she'd never heard him say the word 'regionals' before. She hoped this wasn't going to be a Thing. "So, we have the uniforms you ordered and a thing to wear them to. And that means today we're going to have to do a few routines. It won't be anything too bad, I promise." After all, if somebody did a lazy cartwheel into a zombie, who knew where a rotting arm might land?

"Oh, and we must come up with cheers! Either ones that rhyme or insult our opponents." But who are the opponents in a speed dating event? Loki, you need to stay off Wikipedia.

"... Not opponents. Don't heckle the daters, people, even if you really like one of the pairings," Jessica sighed.

Gert certainly didn't! And neither did Old Lace.

Who apparently needed to accompany her owner to practice for some reason or other. Don't ask.

Possibly for the same reason Artemis followed Minako? Because their humans were trouble magnets?

Minako looked between the dinosaur and the cat. "Uh, she doesn't have an appetite for fur, right? Because he might bite if she does."

"Not unless yours tries attacking me," Gert warned. "But I'm pretty sure I could hold my own."

Seemed unlikely.

"Artemis? Unless you're made out of catnip, not hardly. He's lazy," Minako scoffed, and Artemis twitched his tail indignantly and stalked off to jump-up on some gym equipment. "Although he might try to sleep on your, um, dinosaur, if he gets cold."

"Lazy and spoiled. 'Cause, well, cat." In case Gert had never owned a ~~serial killer~~ feline.

"Then I wouldn't anticipate any danger," Gert replied. "Your... Greek goddess of hunting should be safe."

She paused, then added, "Cool name, by the way."

"Regionals? We have a region? OH MY GOD, we're competing?" Minako, no. Don't take anything Loki says seriously. Ever.

Sparkle was there, but he wasn't doing much in the way of warming up or mingling. He'd found a spot on the bench, and there he was going to sit, feeling kind of like ass.

... A lot like ass. Last night had been eventful, and he had the concussion and bruised ribs to prove it.

"Go team. Rah rah rah."

Routines and coming up with a cheer. You know you wanna.

"The hell are regionals?" Gert muttered.

As for a cheer... she mulled it over for a minute, then ventured, "You're hormonal and seventeen, it's not Christmas or Halloween / Today celebrates desperation, go get yourself some consummation."

That could use work, Gert. And smaller words.

And more spelling.

Jessica was too busy trying to figure out what Regionals were to deny anything. WTF, Loki? WTF?

For the record, you can both go there to cheer and sign up for the dates. In fact, it's encouraged. By the guy co-running cheerleading. And running 3MD. This was not his idea, for the record.
