"So," Jaye began from the front of the Danger Shop Theater, "let's all be glad the animal people went away, or it'd be really hard to put some of them in this room without them complaining."

Well it was true.

"Anyway, today's movie- I mean, philosophical study- is called meta for Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon. Which means it's basically that movie where a plane crashes and everyone has to eat each other, only with teenagers, and the giant yeti is the only one doing any eating. Oh, sorry, that was probably a spoiler."

Zayne was not at the front of the room. Instead, the hospitality droid from Goodvalor's, GG-54 was standing behind the podium.

"Good day, young humans. I am GG-54. Your teacher could not be here today because he is feeling ill. As such, I have been instructed to give a lecture about sick days in your business. Being a droid, I do not get sick."

"...."

"That is all. Please enjoy this movie. But do not be influenced by the poor moral decisions made in the name of becoming successful. It is for entertainment purposes only."

Today, the Danger Shop was set up very much the same way it had been last week, with a moddable laboratory open for the use of all. And this time, there was a little something extra. Mechanical parts in all shapes and sizes, odds and ends and bits and pieces of every description.

And the leaders of the club, of course, ready to lead the group in their activity for the day.

"So, you probably all know about the weirdness that the island gave us last weekend," Evan said, bright-eyed and excited to once again be speaking to the group at large. "With the talking animals and all. And over the course of the weekend I bet a lot of you were telling yourself how you wished they'd be different, right? And now that they're gone, we kind of have that opportunity. I mean, to put together companions the way we want them to be!"

Because that didn't sound foreboding in the least.

"Which," Topher interjected, "is the best kind of pet. Not annoying jackals with names that are impossible to pronounce." He set a bright, shiny, silver robotic puppy down on the desk in front of him. "Broca II here is much more likable."

Especially if you liked yipping in the middle of the night.

"So today we thought we'd let you guys make your own robot pets. And not just puppies, there's also pieces that'll work if you want to make an alligator or a dragon monster or something. Whatever you want. You can come up and use Broca as a model if you want -- he's kind of the best."

Thanks, Topher.

"Just be careful," Liara said, looking cautious, to say the least. "It is not in anyone's interest to build an artificial intelligence. Please keep it to rudimentary programmed responses."

Sorry, some of you. But one did have to be careful.

The students were summoned to the Danger Shop today, where they would find themselves in an arid desert plaza, looming buildings surrounding them, the crowd kneeling, and a tableau before them. In which stood a younger version of their female instructor, alongside her brother.

The scene paused, and Ghanima came out of the shadows to stand alongside her younger-double, who was focused on the prophet in the plaza. "This was me, just shy of my majority birthday," she informed the students. "Daughter of the prophet, Muad'dib, firstborn of the sacred twins. Niece of the Holy One, the Blessed Saint Alia of the Knife. And a Princess Royal of the Known Universe."

"My family took power by co-opting the myths of the Fremen, the desert people of Dune, when my father was not much older than all of you. And at the same time, those myths came to define us, and it is easy to wonder where myth ends and destiny begins."

"Here on Earth, with such a smaller scale, it is sometimes easier to see where religion ends and power begins, so long as you are not blinded by it."

"So today we will watch a documentary about one of your largest Earth religions and their seat of power - the Vatican."

William had been rather relieved to wake up this morning and find Merak gone. Having one's soul manifest for all to see had been... disconcerting.

In any case, today he was spending his time in between reshelving books looking up news regarding the hockey lockout. He still found it strange that people actually made a career out of sport.

The class was back in the dorms gym again, without any of the Danger Shop fun. "I figured this week we'd return to hand-to-hand sparring," Jaina began. "It's probably the most versatile thing you're going to learn, and I don't want you to get bored doing weapons every week. Pick someone in your group to spar against, and if you feel like you need to adjust where you put yourself, go ahead and do it.

"Also, it's Parents Weekend this week," she said. "Which means if you want to try and warn me against telling people things, now's the time to try it."
