SCIENCE! Club, Monday After Classes
Today, the Danger Shop was set up very much the same way it had been last week, with a moddable laboratory open for the use of all. And this time, there was a little something extra. Mechanical parts in all shapes and sizes, odds and ends and bits and pieces of every description.
And the leaders of the club, of course, ready to lead the group in their activity for the day.
"So, you probably all know about the weirdness that the island gave us last weekend," Evan said, bright-eyed and excited to once again be speaking to the group at large. "With the talking animals and all. And over the course of the weekend I bet a lot of you were telling yourself how you wished they'd be different, right? And now that they're gone, we kind of have that opportunity. I mean, to put together companions the way we want them to be!"
Because that didn't sound foreboding in the least.
"Which," Topher interjected, "is the best kind of pet. Not annoying jackals with names that are impossible to pronounce." He set a bright, shiny, silver robotic puppy down on the desk in front of him. "Broca II here is much more likable."
Especially if you liked yipping in the middle of the night.
"So today we thought we'd let you guys make your own robot pets. And not just puppies, there's also pieces that'll work if you want to make an alligator or a dragon monster or something. Whatever you want. You can come up and use Broca as a model if you want -- he's kind of the best."
Thanks, Topher.
"Just be careful," Liara said, looking cautious, to say the least. "It is not in anyone's interest to build an artificial intelligence. Please keep it to rudimentary programmed responses."
Sorry, some of you. But one did have to be careful.

Moddable Lab
Re: Moddable Lab
Victor wasn't certain, but he wasn't in a mood to play with robotics either way. The thing he was building was a large mechanical ant -- he'd woken up thinking about Dr. Pym -- that did nothing more than walking forward and back, and was far more toy than pet.
Talk to the Leaders
Re: Talk to the Leaders
In any event, people were welcome to come admire his wonderful model!
Re: Talk to the Leaders
Something that wouldn't be a crazy handful, yeah.
Re: Talk to the Leaders
Well, as close as she could with her nose in a book.
Talk to GLaDOS

THEY WERE EVIL, OKAY?
