Jaye was looking bored when the class arrived, which was no different from any other week, really. She was, however, holding a DVD case in hand, seeing as how she'd just gotten it.

"Welcome back, and all that stuff, hope no one's still hungover." Jaye herself had managed to slay that little hangover dragon yesterday. "But in case anyone hasn't developed a Guinness-induced twitch at all things Irish yet, here's a movie."

And that's when she had to actually look down and read the case. No, she hadn't watched it first. Hangover dragon and all. "When a lottery winner dies of shock, his fellow townsfolk attempt to claim the money. Oh, okay, simple enough. So, enjoy that."

Library, Monday

William's weekend had been a busy if handwavy one, one that had not involved any drinking, let alone to excess. The whole thing had served to make him- well, not exactly homesick- but perhaps a bit melancholy. The parade had always been one of the highlights of the year, and he found himself missing perhaps one or two people from the orphanage school. Like Eddie.

The library, however, was doing its level best to distract William, it seemed, as several books on penguins were once again refusing to be shelved properly.

The students were directed to meet outside in a field near the school today, Tyrion not wanting to waste the mild spring weather. The observant might notice two sets of shelves off to the side; one was full of pillows, the other of cream pies.

"Welcome to the brave wide world of outside. Today we're starting a unit on military strategy," he said cheerfully. "We'll begin by exploring the pros and cons of different weapons." He went through a reasonably detailed brief description of swords, shields, and arrows, concluding by handing out a flier showing many different kinds of blades.

"As this is a strategic class," he finished, "and as I am not actually insane enough to set you on each other with weapons, we're shifting to a different kind of weapon for the class activity." He gestured to divide the group roughly in half.

"This side of you will get pillows, this side pies. You have ten minutes now to swap sides if you wish to be a traitor, to elect generals, to don armor" --- and there he gestured to a rack of rain ponchos -- "and to otherwise plan your strategy. When the time is up, we go to war. You're out when you get hit in the head at all, or in the chest hard enough to stagger you. Be honest. The team with the most people standing at the end is the winner."

He glanced across the group. "Begin ... now."

Welcome, students, to the great outdoors.

As simulated by the Danger Shop.

"We're still talking about preparing terrain this week, but with a change of scenery." Max grinned. "Hopefully you remember that last week we talked about preparing terrain inside a familiar building. This week is much the same, except that you're outdoors, and in an unfamiliar place." Because he'd picked a geographic location at random. "Now, while some of you are going to have at least some amount of training at survival out in the woods," and Max had a couple of students in mind, "I suspect most of you haven't spent a lot of time in these sorts of situations."

"But that means you're all a bit lucky: I'm not going to just abandon you to your own devices. So find somewhere comfortable to sit, or lean, or whatever, and listen up while I go over a few basics."

"First: while there are exceptions, as a general rule, anything you do to set up advantageous terrain in an outdoor area works better if you can do it without being obvious about it. Camouflage is half of your protection. And sometimes the best thing you can do is to create a place that you can hide in."

"Second: TV and movies are actually surprisingly good sources of ideas for preparing outdoor terrain. As ridiculous as cartoons where people dig pit traps or rig dead-falls may be, the actual ideas behind them are sound. Just often not to the extremes you usually see. So a pit trap big enough to hold an entire person takes forever to dig, but a pit trap a couple of feet deep that's designed just to catch someone's leg and hopefully sprain their ankle or something? That's not so hard. You can do a dozen of the things. And while dropping an entire tree on someone is pretty impractical most of the time, a big tree branch isn't nearly so hard, and can do just as much good."

"One of the other advantages of preparing terrain, knowing ahead of time that you're going to need to defend yourself, is that it often means that you have a chance to bring in any tools you might need." Max waved at a pile of moddable tools off to one side. "So grab what you think you might need, group up if you want, and go prepare some terrain. I'll be walking around and seeing how you're doing."

And if you just happen to catch Max in something? That's probably worth some bonus points.

"Easy class today, everyone," Zayne said. "I like to call this one 'What Not To Do.' In order to learn that, we're going to watch a strangely popular TV show called COPS."

"Some key points to consider. Don't stay where the police will almost certainly find you. Stay in shape just in case you need to run away. Treat your friends and family with respect so they don't have to call the police on you. And most importantly, try to keep a pair of pants handy, if not actually on you. You don't want to be chased halfway around town in your underwear."

Why yes, Zayne had just found out about this show. And he couldn't stop watching reruns.

It was either this or hear about how one of his crew members was secretly an evil psychopath who ran an expert long con on him and, well, this was more fun.

Bond had certainly not co-opted the movie theatre program again, however instead of popcorn, the smell of freshly-cooked pastry and mint tea was in the air.

"As a result of centuries of trade and interactions, Moroccan cuisine bears the influence of various Berber, Moorish, Mediterranean, and Arab cultures," Bond began, giving a brief overview of some of the more common Moroccan dishes. "It is a diverse cuisine which uses extensive spices. However, while appreciation for this Moroccan food is growing, the fact remains that in may western cultures the first and arguably most well known reference to Morocco they'll encounter is the film we'll be watching today."
