wwiii: (Smirkyface)

Today, Herc's class had been handwavily notified to dress for the weather. Why? Because there was a little bit of a field trip to be had today, led not by Hercules, but by his slightly smaller, fine feathered friend.

Warren was kind of making a face at the wriggly pug puppy that was tucked under one arm, yes.

"So, since this class is about this guy's twelve labors and then some," he said, nodding down to Hercules-the-puppy, "today, we're going to be learning about the Ceryneian Hind. The Hind was, essentially, this massive deer with golden antlers and bronze hooves. It belonged to the goddess Artemis and could outrun an arrow in flight. And Hercules had to catch it."

You guys could see where this was going, right?

"Since I can't really ask him how he went about it right now, I'll just say that the myths have a bunch of different theories, that range everywhere from asking Artemis nicely to chasing the Hind for a full year without stopping and tackling it when it went to sleep. Today, we're going to say hi to Fandom Island's slower, smaller, more teal cousins of the Hind, and we're going to do it in a much simpler way. Everyone grab a bucket of oats, and let's head out to the preserve. We'll just hang out with people today. Get to know our classmates, talk a lot, and maybe we'll see some hinds of our own."

When the students arrived for their meeting today, they would find not only pizza waiting for them, but an assortment of pies.

"Everything I know about Thanksgiving, I've learned here, so it's all about food," she said, once everyone had gotten settled. "The holiday next week is the only thing coming up before our next meeting. Do we want have any kind of meal for people who are sticking around? I know it's a very American holiday, but with the portals being not as secure as usual, we might have more folks staying here instead of going home. Or, if you have any other ideas, the table is yours." The parts of it that weren't covered in food, of course.

At his father's insistence -- and, to be fair, a bit because after the past weekend, it felt like the thing to do -- Wesley was working on his Oxford application in the library today. This would have been easier if the library didn't keep hiding his coffee, but, well. He knew better than to expect that.

When everyone had taken their seats in the Danger Shop today, there were images around the room of the same woman.

"As there is so much to cover with this one woman, we'll only be covering part of her life up until she took the throne and then next class we will finish her. She is definitely one of the best examples of not being what history would call a well-behaved woman. However, next to Joan of Arc, she is one my favorite historical women."

Annja leaned against her desk.

"If there was ever a Queen that went through hell on the way to claiming her rightful throne, that Queen was Elizabeth I of England. Her battle started even before she was born as her mother, Anne Boleyn, married King Henry VIII. As we saw in the movie a few weeks ago, things did not go very well for Anne at all. When Elizabeth was not quite three years old, her mother was beheaded by her father on some rather trumped up charges. Because of this, Elizabeth was declared illegitimate and lost her title of Princess. Even at that age, Elizabeth missed nothing as she was said to ask someone in her household why the day before they had referred to her as my Lady Princess, but on the next day as merely my Lady Elizabeth. This attention to detail was something that would end up serving Elizabeth well throughout her entire life."

Class today was in a normal classroom today. With a certain game waiting for people to play. Because it was necessary for people to have plastic robots battle to the death in order for them to learn how to fight.

Yes.

"While many of you may think this game comes from a movie with Hugh 'I'm too tall to be Wolverine' Jackman, you'd be wrong. While there are some similarities between the two, namely the fighting robots that are controlled by people for the amusement of other people, are actually just that one... Rock'e Sock'e Robots actually came first," Deadpool informed them. "Which is why we're playing the game rather than watching that movie."

A beat.

"And not just because I can't bring myself to see a movie that I'm not in or anything."

Another beat.

"Okay, who wants to get to the fighting?"

George was in way too good a mood today to bother trying for cranky. She hadn't seen the e-mail from Portalocity, and it kind of wouldn't affect her anyway if she had.

So she was going for a cheerful sort of apathetic. Like the sort of staring at a wall that was because you felt like it and not because you hated everything, ever. Because sometimes you could be apathetic and content. At least that was what George was going to say. Shut up.

"Not everything sucks," she decided. "I'm just saying."

Hell was decidedly chilly today.
