Hercules had plans for today, oh yes he did. He also had a completely new outfit. Complete with pants! And belt pouches! He had the class assemble in a classroom, and clapped his hands together once it was time to start the session.

"One of the things about heroic deeds is that sometimes the simplest is the most important," Hercules said. "This week's task will not take place in this classroom, but out and about this weekend, as it is the glorious time of Homecoming! I want you all to do one thing this weekend for someone who could use a good deed. Perhaps you will help an old lady cross a street, or ask some shy person to dance with you at the dance, or perhaps you will save someone who is being bullied. These are all good deeds, often overlooked as unimportant, but they are far from it."

He raised a hand, a single finger outstretched and pointed at the ceiling. "But don't think you are getting out of class early, either," he said. "No, today I want a class discussion. I have been focusing on bringing out the best qualities in each of you through trials of skill, perseverance, and wit. Today I want everyone to share a labor they've endured outside of this class, and how you feel it helped shape you."

He pointed at a student at random. "You, you can start!"

There was a carnival today and Wes was absolutely going, thank you. But first he was going to stick around at the library for at least an hour, because he'd feel bad if he just blew off his shift entirely.

He sat at the desk and tapped his foot the whole time, and then an hour was up and he was out of there.

Sorry, Belle. And anyone who might be library-going on carnival day.

On the door to the room where the student council usually met was a sign, in case any of them actually came by from the carnival, and a bag full of caramels, since everything had gone off so far without a hitch.

The Student Council meeting for today has been
canceled due to Homecoming.
Take some candy!

When the class entered the Danger Shop today, they would see that they were standing on what appeared to be the deck of a ship. In the distance, there looked to be a fierce sea battle going on. When everyone had arrived, Annja smiled.

"It's Friday, it's Homecoming weekend and I know that most of you would rather be elsewhere right now than in class. So, we have a short lecture, today." She gestured at the sea battle. "The Battle of Salamis. Not many have heard of it because it gets caught up and lost when discussed with a great battle that happened around the same time, the Battle of Thermopylae. The Persians wanted Greece, Greece had a strong opinion on that. It is from this war that the legend of the 300 Spartans has risen."

She tilted her head. "This, however, is not Sparta. This is Fandom and today I wanted to tell you about a little known queen named Artemesia. Artemisia was the queen of Halicarnassus, and commander of the Carian contingent for the Persian side. In essence, she was the first female naval commander. In 480 BCE, when the Persian king, Xerxes, invaded Greece, queen Artemisia of Halicarnassus, commanded five ships from her small state. She appears to have behaved bravely during the naval battle off Artemisium, and advised against the naval engagement at Salamis. When this battle did take place and the Persian fleet was already defeated, her ship, trying to escape from a Greek captain named Ameinias of Pallene, rammed the ship of Xerxes' ally, King Damasitheos, who did not survive this attack. According to Herodotus, Xerxes had not seen how this happened and was unaware that the sinking ship was one of his own, and therefore praised Artemisia's courage by saying My men have become women and my women men."

Annja leaned against the railing of the ship. "After the battle, she advised Xerxes not to stay in Greece, but to return to Asia. He agreed with her counsel, but he probably had his own reasons for following her advise. It is later said of her that she escorted Xerxes' sons safely from Greece to Ephesus. Nothing much is known of her after that and it is assumed that she returned to her country and ruled well until her death."

"It's Homecoming weekend, so why the hell are any of you bothering to be here when you could be doing something ill-advised with alcohol at a football game, despite the school not having a team," Deadpool said. He paused, tilting his head in what could be called 'thoughtful' manner. "But we do have cheerleaders. Why is that? Who do they even cheer for at this point? Is this one of those Zen riddles? Oh god, have some of you inadvertently become enlightened?"

...what.

Deadpool shook himself free of the burden of enlightenment. "Anyway, your assignment today is to go to the fair and hit people with pies and/or dunk them. It's hand-eye coordination."

Or something like that.

"Oo! Oo! Extra credit if you hit Madrox!"

Oz had his class meet him in an ordinary classroom this week. "Morning all, I hope you enjoyed the break, I spent mine in sunny Visplazikstan, ironing out some wrinkles before their independence celebrations, but enough about me, I'm sure you've all got something much more important and relevant on your minds. Homecoming."

"Now I'm sure you're all wondering how Homecoming could possibly be relevant to not being evil, but if there's one thing that teen movies have to teach us it's that when it comes to school dances all it takes is one ill-advised choice of date, one insensitive bet, one pee cannon, or one bucket of pig's blood, for it to go horribly wrong. Which is why your assignment today is to get together and brainstorm ways that you can save Homecoming from potential evildoers, because we've already had enough people trying to destroy the island for one year."
