Today's class was taking place in the Danger Shop where there wasn't a desk to be found: only a cloudless day, a beating sun and apparent kilometers of oceans surrounding five small dingies that were neatly labeled with four or five students' names, or in one case, four students and one lemur.

Anakin's voice came over the speaker system: "Welcome to your first practical Ethics class. You've all been shipwrecked. In a moment, the dingy you're in will be the only thing you will see. There is no land for hundreds of kilometers, no fresh water, and you've run out of food. The only resources you have are the other people--or in one case, the people and lemur--you have in the boat. Will you turn to cannibalism? If so, who will be the first to go?"

Hope you weren't hungry for breakfast, class.

"Again, if you'd prefer not to participate in this class, shake your head strongly and you will be taken out of the simulation."

With that the students were apparently left to their own devices.

Today was a discussion class with Cindy, so the students had been sent emails reminding them to come to the classroom, rather than the Danger Shop. The usual coffee and pastries were on the sideboard; Cindy figured that sooner or later, people would figure out they were for sharing. If not, more for her.

She didn't bother with greetings and niceties this time around. There was learning to do. "The Trojan War," she said, after the students had settled. "Most of you from this planet and this approximate time in history will have heard of it. The vast majority of what we know about that battle between the ancient Greeks and the Trojans comes from a bard named Homer. I'm not saying what we know is accurate--" that seemed an important caveat, based on some of their students "--scholars still aren't entirely sure whether the battle is historical or mere myth or even if Homer was one man or a group, so if your version is different, that's fair. But we're here to study literature, and that's what can be found right here, in The Iliad."

Rinoa couldn't seem to find a book today to lose herself in, so instead, she organized she shelves and distracted herself with busy work.

If she got all of the busy work done, she was going to let herself wander the stacks and make up a To Read list, and maybe one of those books would hook her. It was worth a try.

The library was open.

When the students entered the danger shop today they would notice that it looked just like a normal classroom.

With the exception of several couches pushed up all against the walls of the room.

They would also notice a very stern looking Jamie standing in front of the classroom.

This probably won't end well... )
