"Ahhh, good morning, my little goslings ♥!" Shunsui wasted no time in getting the coffees and cocoas passed around to the students; even he was having a little trouble wakin gup that morning, but it probably had more to do with Red-Socks-chan's little squirrel sake party than anything else. If anything, the drinks should do well to help keep the cold off. "Now that we have had a weekend bereft of potential pony tails, let us get back on track with the craft of creative writing ♥. Today's lesson is going to be about developing character, which should be easy for any of you, surrounded as you are by such interesting characters every day ♥.

"Like plot, characters are essential to almost all stories ♥. You can't really have one without the other; sometimes the characters are created out of a necessity for the plot, and other times, a plot begins to develop around the creation of characters ♥. Essentially, characters are our people, our actors, our little critters and important objects, the actors and the players on the stage of our book ♥. There is usually a hero and a villain. Or perhaps an anti-hero. There may be a beautiful love interest that the hero and villain are combating over; maybe it's the beautiful love interest that is really the true hero of the story ♥! Or perhaps a wise old sage who dispenses helpful....or unhelpful!...advice ♥. There are roguish captains wooing sexy pirates; bookish or dreamy young girls dreaming of princes or exciting battles and victories. Every day young men and women are trying to discover who they are and what their purposes in life may be. When it comes to characters in fiction, just as with characters in life, there are no limits as to what there could be ♥.

"One of the easiest ways for a writer to write their stories is to really get their character ♥. Know them as well as you know yourself, probably better; get inside them, their heads, their bodies, their emotions and feelings ♥. Know why they do what they do, their motivations, their reasons, their thoughts and opinions ♥. The writer, when writing, will become their characters, just as an actor on stage becomes their character for the duration of the play ♥. Do you want the character of the story to be someone like you, someone you can relate to and use as a voice ♥? Or do you want them to be quite different, to live vicariously through a person who will get the chance for so many things different than what life hands you now ♥? Either way, through your character, you can be whoever you want and have them do whatever your heart desires ♥. The heroes in my own work tend to be dashing and charming, so, clearly, my art tends to imitate life ♥.

"So this is what we will be doing today ♥! I want you all to spend some time really working out a character ♥. I have some worksheets that may help you really get down to the details of a character, but you, as the writer, of course, may determine what is important about them and what is not ♥. Feel free to bounce ideas off of each other, and, when we've all worked a little bit on our characters, we'll then put them into action, and I'll tell you more about that when we're finished ♥.

"Any questions before we begin ♥?"

Anakin, despite not having lived on a desert in several decades--and having a wife who was from New England--was still a big baby very sensitive when it came to cold. And he'd learned that as long as you were warm, it didn't really matter how silly you looked.

Perhaps someone had just told him that based on the headgear he was currently sporting, thanks to the island's bizarre weather, which was certainly...something.

Bundled up in his Jedi robes and trying not to look like he was completely freezing, he gestured to a rack of the sort of snowgear that mountain climbers wore. "Put that on," he commanded. "The cold on the other side of the causeway is not messing around, and those suits have been fitting with tracking devices in case you wonder off. I would really hope you all take the name of this workshop to heart today and try not to die."

After the students were suitably dressed, he handed them GPS units and gave very brief instructions on how to use them, then stepped back from the clue box. "See you at the rendevous point."

Summer hadn't expected the cold weather to suddenly show up, so she was glad she'd booked the class in the Danger Shop again.

Thankfully, the students wouldn't have to deal with the cold in class. She'd set up the classroom to resemble a warm, tropical setting where the water was clear and the sun was bright. The depth of the water varied from five feet to fairly deep.

Once again, Summer was standing on a boat with diving equipment, ready to go.

"I thought we could spend some time in the water today. There are varying degrees of depth to the water, including shallow parts, so you could practice with your equipment and feel comfortable doing so." Summer was definitely getting into the water today.

"Feel to explore the area as much as you want. There are moddable coral reefs and marine life to look at. If you have any questions, whether it's about your equipment or what you see out there, I'll do my best to answer them."

Rnoa was having a restless sort of day. Maybe it was the fact that the weather had dipped down again, thanks to the island's latest travels, or maybe it was because she was in that weird stage between books -- she'd just finished a really good one, and didn't want to start a new one yet with the old one still so fresh in her mind.

So today would be a day of doing busy work and organizing, then.

The Library was open.

Today when the class arrived in the Danger Shop, they'd see that they were set up in a Diner type setting. Actually it was a diner with Zombies hanging out in it. Zombies frozen in place.

Along with Columbus was a grumpy looking man in a leather jacket and a cowboy hat.

"Hi everyone!" Columbus said cheerfully. "For those of you who were in class last term you no doubt remember Tallahassee."

Tallahassee grunted something that sounded like a greeting.

"Today we're going to be talking about..."

Columbus fiddled with the remote and once again big block letters appeared behind himself and Tallahassee.

THE BUDDY SYSTEM

"Wait, wait wait," Tallahassee said holding up his hand. "Didn't we do that already?"

"Actually that was 'Get a Kick Ass Partner'," Columbus explained. "It's totally different."

"No, it isn't."

"Yes, it is."

"No... it isn't."

Columbus sighed. "Today your assignment is to team up with another classmate and make sure you get through the diner without dying. Go ahead. I have to argue with an artificial intelligence."

"Did you just call me stupid?" Tallahassee demanded angrily.

Columbus sighed again and hit the remote un-pausing the zombies. This could take a while.
