"Hey, I've got a portal to catch out of town right after class, so let's make this snappy," Lucas said. Class was in the Danger Shop today, as dictated by a sign on the door of the normal classroom. He was evil, after all. He wasn't going to send out an e-mail. He wasn't some kind of Matthew Patel first level boss. "Costumes. Play dress up. Talk to each other in accents that fit your costume. Do whatever you want, I'm on vacation in an hour."

[OOC: Sorry for lame class. The night got away from me, and Friday night mostly goes toward prep for trips.]

There was a television and a radio set up at the front of room and John was sitting behind the desk, feet up and book in hand. It wasn't a good book but it was holding his attention until he tossed it down and stood up.

"Today, we're gonna talk about teen idols," he started. "If you've never heard the term before, teen idols are someone who is widely idolized by teenagers but doesn't have to be a teenager themselves. Ever heard of Justin Bieber?"

Well, if they hadn't, they were now because John hit a button on the boombox and got one of the Bieber's latest hits playing. "Yeah, kind of bad, right? That doesn't stop this kid from having millions of fans and selling out stadiums. A lot of the appeal of the teen idol is their dreamy good looks and talent, though that last one is questionable. A lot of it is just the good looks and how teenagers want to date them, love them, marry them, etc. Thankfully, Justin Bieber is not the first teen idol. There were many before him and there will be many after. With the advent of social media, it's just easier for someone to become a teen idol. In the past, you had to buy teeny bopper magazines with their pictures on the front. Before that, it was listening to the radio and television. Now, you can jump on Twitter and read the teen idol's innermost thoughts or jump on Facebook and see behind the scenes pictures of them. We're able to get closer than ever before to celebrities. Kind of creepy, isn't it?"

John was just glad he'd grown out of the teen idol phase. "Can anyone guess who the first true teen idol was? It was before everyone's time but it was Frank Sinatra. Check out some pictures of him when he was younger, the man was definitely a looker and had a huge amount of talent. There's also Elvis Presley, Rudolph Valentino, Judy Garland, Donny Osmond, the New Kids on the Block, Ricky Nelson, the list goes on and on. For today's assignment, we're gonna watch one of my favorite movies starring a teen idol who died way too young."

With that said, John clicked play on the movie and took a seat, totally fine with getting to watch this flick again.
prof_of_cunning: (with Baldrick - formal)

Today, Baldrick was back in the classroom, but he looked a little different than usual. (Sadly, he didn't smell a little different than usual.) He was wearing a powdered white wig, one of Blackadder's more threadbare frock coats, and the same pair of shiny blue pantaloons that Edmund had tried to get his students to try on during the very first class.

"Since today's subject is maintaining one's sanity in the face of idiots one can't openly abuse," Edmund said, standing just out of whiffing distance and pointing at his dogsbody, "Baldrick is obviously not the most accurate example, so he's standing in for someone who is. In this case, he's pretending to be royalty as well as my boss, but you needn't go that far to find someone stupid in a position of power, as we discussed last week."

"So. How to express one's frustrations - or get what one desires - when one can't do it openly?" Edmund flicked his hand through the air like he was about to produce a silk rose from his sleeve. "Passive-aggression via the stealth insult, of course. One of the few pleasant things about idiots in power is that the more idiotic they are, the less likely that they will be aware that you're insulting them. In that sense, Baldrick -- pardon me, Prince George -- is an outstanding assistant today."

"Oh, Mister Blackadder, truly?" Baldrick's sooty hand covered his heart. "Nobody's ever told me I helped them before!"

Edmund's eyebrow lifted by the smallest fraction of a millimetre. "You shock me, Your Highness."

He should have known better than to expect Baldrick to remember he was supposed to be in character - though to be fair, drop the Mister and substitute Bladders and it still made a halfway decent impersonation.

"I'll remember it to my dying day!"

"Please accept my sincerest hopes that I live to see that vow come true."

"You know, you're never this nice to me when I'm being me..." Baldrick complained, tugging awkwardly on his wig.

Edmund rolled his eyes. "You don't pay me, and your socks have very little resale value." To his class, he said, "So, the object here is to express your negative opinions without your personal imbecile realizing he's being derided -- if you're very good at it, he might even think it's a compliment."

Wesley was researching colleges. It was the end of junior year and right around the time most seniors would be hearing back from their schools, so it seemed like the thing to do. With a stack of college-related books open on the library countertop, he started his research, dutifully taking notes in a notebook of to the side.

Of course, he didn't even know if college was even necessarily a good idea, but -- research. It was fun.

Do not expect George to talk today. In fact, George was trying to see if she could get through the whole day without talking.

She didn't criticize how you amused yourself, okay?

Her headphones were on and she was doodling on a notepad. If you wanted more excitement out of Apathy Club, perhaps you should have fucking signed up for something else.
