doubleohblonde: (Bond is leaning with intent)

Today the Danger Shop was set up to resemble a beach, much like the ones they'd so recently left behind. Well, except for the dune buggy, Bond was leaning on. Looks like someone had spent his holiday planning the lesson.

"Welcome back," Bond greeted them. "I trust your break was pleasant. Today we're going to easing back into things by taking this around some courses. If you wish you may pair up so that one navigates while the other drives, and then vice versa."

That sounded simple enough.

When the students returned to the chemistry classroom after their long (too long, in Kūkaku's opinion) vacation, they'd find a note on the board to relocate to the home ec kitchen. And once they were there, they'd find their teacher there, as well as her two servants in aprons and chef hats, mixing up something in large bowls.

"Mornin', class," Kūkaku greeted them. "As ya can see, we're doin' a little bit of cookin' today. It's actually a little known fact that I'm a fuck amazin' cook, because, guess what? All cookin' is is chemistry. Ya got a mix of certain ingredients that cause a chemical reaction with heat and each other to make somethin' delicious. Or, if you cook like Shiroganehiko, somethin' awful."

Apparently, Koganehiko was the chef of the two. Kūkaku launched into a short lecture about the concept of cooking as chemistry, and even a little bit into how chemistry works its way into having quality ingredients, from bananas and their ripeness to the oxidation of meat.

"Now," she continued, "one of the most notorious things you can cook that demands for the precision and care of a chemist is a souffle. You don't get a souffle just right, and it'll fail completely. Usually, it implodes in on itself..."

Here, Kūkaku gained that grin that the students should be used to by now. "So, you could go ahead and see how you can do with some typical souffle recipes and try to make 'em so they don't fall. Or, you could give it a little twist and try my own personal handwavey recipe, and try to make 'em so they don't explode all over your face. Clearly, that souffle isn't edible, but it's a bit more fun."

Ah, it felt good to be back.

"Welcome back, my little ducklings ♥." Shunsui smiled upon his students as they settled once more in the their peaceful little ring with their peaceful cups of cocoa. "I hope the break has left you refreshed and cleansed and ready to learn once more ♥. Today, I would like to discuss another text of Eastern philosophy, called Taiping Jing ♥, from the philosophy of Taoism, which has a long tradition of the relationship between humanity and Nature, of compassion, humility, and moderation ♥. I have a terrible time with those last two, myself ♥.

A lot of babble below! )

"But is it realistic? I have been with you long enough to know that the popular response will probably be no. Is it possible, do you think, that one day the chaos of the world can be lead into peace through the guidance of a leader, celestial or otherwise? Is the world too chaotic for such things to ever occur? Does belief in a sort of savior to lead the world into peace give people hope and inspire them to live better and, in their own ways, make life a little more peaceful? Or is more a crutch, something to lean on in the hope that things might one day be better? If it gives a person hope for a better world, can it really be that bad? Many, many questions, of course. Do you have any answers? Or any other questions to add?

"Let's discuss ♥!"

Back in the Danger Shop again, the class found themselves on a busy corner in downtown Manhattan. To their left was a set of stairs with odd-markings leading underground. In the street, bright orange cars and large buses flew by, stuffed with people.

"These days, it's not unheard of for people to travel great distances for the most mundane reasons. Commuting to work, visiting friends, going out shopping; all of these activities can be located many, many miles from your home. Walking or even biking places may not be feasible if you want to arrive at your destination by a certain time or without arriving utterly exhausted. Many people drive from one place to another, but that's not always the best option, either. You need to be of a certain age to be able to drive legally in most places, and you have to be skilled enough to pass a basic test of ability. Furthermore, cars can be expensive to own, insure, and upkeep, and that's not even bringing into account other difficulties, like Fandom's streets being too narrow to drive on and the near-impossibility of finding a decent and/or inexpensive place to park in New York." One of the benefits of working in a library was that it made it easy to do research during your shift. Especially in a place like Fandom, where the library had such interesting resources.

And so she was here, looking up Junctioning, its possible aftereffects, and possession. That last one was kept near the bottom of the stack, in case anyone came in.

Today each table in the Journalism classroom was adorned with small bowls of pineapple rings.

And forks, because pineapple rings were sticky and asking people to eat them with their fingers was just silly.

"We thought you might wish to cling to the memory of Spring Break for as long as possible," Cally said. "So we've provided some appropriate refreshments for our post-holiday brainstorming."

Blackagar even had a drink that had pineapple juice in it! He held it up as his little contribution to the conversation. Because actual talking on his part was to be frowned upon.

...by those who survived it.
