When the students arrived to class today, they would find not just the usual bowls of popcorn set out, but also some pies in a variety of moddable flavors. Ziva had been very good about not sampling any of them on the way back from town, no matter how good they smelled.

"Next week is the American holiday of Thanksgiving which, from my experience, is a holiday dedicated to eating as much as possible while surrounding yourself with family and friends. The holiday also marks the official beginning of the winter holiday season. As far as retail stores are concerned, that season began in September, so I decided that showing a classic holiday film a week early will be all right."

Especially since that meant pie. Mmmm, pie.

Today, William was occupying himself by reading about ballistics and blood spatter. Such a nice, cheerful topic. It was probably a good thing the Ethics assignment was finished as of today, or he'd probably try reading to the droid baby.

"I'd like to apologize for the canceled class last week," Angua said, with a faint, slightly on edge smile, because, of course, these things couldn't conveniently coincide with the phases of the moon for her. "But I'm sure if my suspicions about last week were correct, you didn't mind too much. But it's back to work today and we've talked a lot about tracking, but now it's time to consider ways of trapping what you track. I'm sure many of us in this class might already have some effective methods that we already use, but today, we'll go over some classic wilderness snares and traps, and then work on adapting them to an urban environment."

Snares in the City )

"So you guys probably know the drill by now. We'll spend the first part of class here in the woods working on the different snares and traps, and then we'll head into the city and see how we might be able to make some adaptations. Any questions?"

"Hi, everyone!" Ariel gave the club a little bit of a wave once it looked like mostly everyone was there and it was time to begin. "I promise, I'm not going to make anyone sing about sexy things today, unless you really want to, in which case, go for it! Today, we're just going to take it easy and sing whatever we might want to sing about and have fun."

Because someone had a birthday party she had to go set up for, ahem.

"But, I was also thinking of something fun we could do next week that might take some practice, but would be a really great way to work together and get to know each other a little more. We should do duets next week! And we could also make it sort of a competition, so that whoever works together best and has the best duet, I've actually picked up a gift certificate for free dinner at Il Pollo. I hear they have free breadsticks! Mister Deadpool and Master Skywalker, obviously, get to judge who has the best. And they don't count, 'cause I know they like to sing together, and then they'd just pick themselves."

As much as she'd support a Deadpool/Anakin dinner date.

Ariel gave a faint, anticipatory smile to the group. "What do you think?"

[[ the ocd is a'coming a'here! ]]

[[ ETA: My brain is special and just remembered next Thursday is Thanksgiving. So Ariel will amend to make it the week after next for the competition once she finds out what Thanksgiving is ;) ]]

Today the students, who would be returning their fake children, would be greeted with the sight of Anakin holding his seventeen month old daughter Juliet as they entered the classroom.

Well, restraining her. She was really interested in all of the stuffed Ewok toys. "I know many of you expressed a lack of understanding with what I was aiming at with this assignment," he said, waving his hand in the Force and grabbing one of the stuffed animals for the toddler, who squealed with appreciation.

"In many schools in this country and in this dimension, being assigned fake children is part of your health classes in order to instill a level of responsibility and understanding of cause and effect. In an ethics course, it is equally important to learn how you would react to being placed in such a situation. My best friend, who had never in his life dreamed of being placed with the responsibility of a child, was given one when the mother died unexpectedly."

And a nice spin on his Dark Side fall that was.

"Many unexpected offspring are brought into the universe through untamed lust," he continued, "which is why the droid babies come out during that class. But for me--and hopefully for you--the important lesson to learn were how you did dealing with the unexpected. Did you communicate well with your partner? Did you avoid the responsibility of the assignment entirely? Did you spend your week pointlessly hating me? What did you learn this week?"

Summer waited for everyone to settle down before beginning her lecture.

"The CSS Texas (Confederate States Ship Texas), was a twin propeller casement ironclad ram of the Confederate Navy, named for the state of Texas. She was 217-feet long and launched at Richmond, Virginia, in January 1865. Since the ship was built so late in the American Civil War, it saw no action before being captured by Union forces," she explained, passing around a brief summary of the Civil War and background on the CSS Texas.

"At the time of Robert E. Lee's evacuation of Richmond on 3 April 1865, the CSS Texas was left unfinished but intact in an outfitting berth at the Richmond Navy Yard, one of only two vessels which escaped destruction by the departing Confederate forces. Captured when the city fell the following day, the ironclad was taken into the United States Navy, but saw no service. Texas was laid up at Norfolk until 15 October 1867 when she was sold to J.N. Leonard & Co. of New Haven, Connecticut."

Summer switched on the projector, to show a layout of the ship. It was quite a piece of machinery, at that.

"Not much is known about the CSS Texas after she was sold. I can only assume that she was either sold again or eventually, scrapped for parts, seeing as she saw no wartime action." It was something worth researching further.

"Blah blah, meeting in session." Barney was starting regardless of who hadn't shown up. "Okay people, it's your asses on the line here. I promised the principal and the town that the Fandom High Student Council was up for the task of putting on a Thanksgiving feast. Will you be the ones to let down the step mother of our most glorious StuCo President ever? You got some big shoes to fill, el presidente." A pointed look toward Karev and Barney was back on track. "Now, you kiddos gotta grab that holiday by the nuts and make it work like you're Tim Gunn and we're hitting the runway in five minutes. Live the reality, my people!" That had to mean something, right?
