Ned was kind of glad the kids were gone before the the club's meeting. He could barely keep his two entertained so he knew he'd fail at keeping a group. And that would have been some kind of cleanup if the kids had come in and cooked.

"Welcome back," Ned said, nodding at everyone. "Hope you all made it through the weekend okay and had fun with your...sudden children. I had two and one of them thought an egg was going to eat his hand. Luckily, the egg did not and the pie was made."

Even if Chad had ended up a mess.

"Today, we're going to be doing side dishes. Now, every good main dish is only as good as it's side dishes. What would a turkey be without mashed potatoes or a plate of pasta be without some peas? A hamburger without fries? Side dishes are complimentary and they should match the main dish. Having peas with a hamburger is a bit odd. So, create side dishes. Think about what main dish they'd go with. And then, eat up!"

Ned nodded to the table full of moddable ingredients and headed to his station.

"If you ever write something really good and get really lucky, you might just get nominated for an award. Most of these awards are completely useless, of course. It's like an actor winning a Kid's Choice Award or a singer winning a Grammy: big deal, nobody cares. But there's one award that can actually make a journalist proud: the Pulitzer Prize. It's given to people who've achieved greatness in journalism, literature, and music every year. Guess which one we're focusing on."

Cut for PRIZES! )

[OOC: Sign up in the OCD. If you don't pick something, I'll grab one of the remaining categories for you and let you know. If you want to actually write an article in your chosen category on a subject of your choice, it should be about 200-400 words long and will be included in a Journalism Class Finals Edition newspaper. If you'd rather handwave, I'll still need a headline for your article so that the newspaper can direct people to a handwavey page "2D" or something. If you want to find or photoshop a picture for the photography categories, that would be love.

Please don't pick the photography categories unless you'll be game for running around in a different post next Thursday because you WILL get another photo assignment to keep you busy.]

"Hey," Tyler greeted from atop his desk once most of the students seemed to be there. "Wipe last week from your memories. If you ask us about it, congratulations, that's a detention. This is a research week for your final project. We have to cover from 1975 to the present day. I was going to talk about President Obama, but that means skipping over a couple of decades and we've already skipped a lot. So we decided to be kind and let you guys teach the last 35 years."

Generous, wasn't it?

He hopped off his desk and started roaming the classroom, handing out slips of paper listing assignments. "Most of you are paired up, but there's one group of three, and you've all been assigned five-year time periods from 1975 to now. Each team gets to research their assigned era and selecting a major historic event or trend from that time to discuss. The rest of this class period is yours to prepare. I warned Miss Kishi in the library that we might be coming, if you want to head down there and start on your research, or you could go to the computer lab. If you do that, remember, I know how to use Wikipedia too. Be prepared to give an original five-minute presentation next week."

A beat. "This is all pretty recent, so don't decide to focus on anything where huge numbers of innocent people died. It doesn't tend to go over very well. Questions?"

"Here's a hint," Algren tossed in, for good measure, "if you think somebody from the Civil War era who has been horribly misplaced might want to learn it in order to catch up with the times, do, please, tell him. But be sure to break it to the poor man gently. He's old and possibly senile, after all."

Algren was allowed to poke a little fun at himself, dammit. He'd spent far too much time in the past two weeks wearing women's clothing.

As her students walked in, Abigail Irene looked frazzled for the first time ever.

"I am very sorry about last week, everyone. Please rest assured, it will not happen again."

Though she almost seemed to be... blushing?

"I am glad to know, however, that my chosen teaching assistants covered the class and admirably from all accounts." If they were there, Sam and Savannah were given a warm, appreciative, smile.

"Today, however, I'd like to start with the lesson, which will be short, and open up the rest of the class to question or discussion, considering."

She leaned back, ran a hand over her hair to straighten it a little, and settled herself to begin.

Miss Elizabeth Bennet was waiting in the library when her students filed in. She had also left a note on her classroom door this morning, reminding her students of the change in location, should any have forgotten. She would kindly overlook any who were running late.

"Please do remember that I have office hours on Tuesday, and I shall be here the entire period, should you need any assistance whatsoever. For now," she smiled. "You have papers to start."

"Okay," Rikku said with a bit of a bounce. "I didn't know if this week was supposed to be our last week, or next week was? So since we didn't do a good-bye issue or anything, that'll be next Tuesday's issue, and it'll be our last. Then we can meet up for a pizza party here next Thursday, during finals. Is that okay with everybody?"
