"Welcome back," Miss Elizabeth Bennet smiled. "As you recall, at the end of last week's class, I asked you to obtain a copy of either Randolph Park or Amelia, were you able to do so, or both, if you were particularly inclined. Rest assured that there is no punishment for not reading either, and I shall try to keep this discussion on a level which all of you will be able to follow.

(OOC: I wrote up a meta-ing for the names of the major characters in the two books, so we wouldn't keep tripping over each other in inventing them. You can find that here.)

Sam had more coffee with him than was possibly necessary as he went to open the library. He was thinking about Homecoming, and how his excitement about possibly getting to go with Peter was balanced out by worrying about who might come back to visit. It was definitely going to be a day of reading to distract himself from thinking about that more.

"You can tell people what to do but they're not necessarily going to agree with you," Nathan said. "In order to get that agreement you need to motivate them."

Today's lunch was Chinese food. Nathan was in the mood.

"Great job to all of you for the work you've been putting in on Homecoming so far," Nathan said. "Today's meeting is for all of you to coordinate any last minute details. You can also feel free to vent about any frustrations." Nathan gave them all a grin. "We'll consider those off the record.

"Our next meeting will be after the break. I'm here if you have questions. And I've taken care of chaperones for the dance, so you can cross that off of the list."

Murdock had a TV in the classroom today, but before he got to putting on a movie about a a famous bomber, he had a few notes for the class.

The facts were these: Ned...had never run a club before. He was sure that fact was incredibly hard to tell but, yes, he'd never run anything even like a club before.

So, equipped with a cookbook and a pie (might as well bake one for the first club), he found his way to the classroom and gotten it set up as many hours of research had suggested. That was done.

He even wrote COOKING CLUB on the board just in case anyone got confused. You know, like Ned himself.

Once people had found their way into the classroom, Ned nervously stood up and said, "Um, hi. Some of you know me, some of you don't. I'm Ned and this is the cooking club. I did some research..." And he hoped no one laughed at him for that. "...and the first club meeting should generally just be an icebreaker so...let's just do names and favorite food. You can add in cooking experience, if you want to and if you have it. Otherwise, we'll just do something nice and easy to get to know each other."

He cleared his throat. "Anyway, yeah, I'm Ned and my favorite food is pie, obviously. I'm partial to apple pies. I've been cooking since I was about nine, mostly desserts but I'm pretty good with any recipes. So...anyone else?"

Okay! It was Rikku's very first meeting as editor. Not that she was nervous. Okay, she was, but she remembered to bring pastries and coffee, and so she wasn't doing too badly at this editor gig so far. Uh. Right?

(OOC: Welcome, new paper-ites! Please check your invites and be sure to join [livejournal.com profile] fhightimes to see fun things like the OOC planning posts. There was an e-mail that went out, too -- if you didn't get it, let me know?)

It was the first meeting of the Young Entrepreneurs Club and, even with everything buzzing in Turtle's head for homecoming, she was ready to go and very excited and even a little bit nervous, although things like this should be old hat for her. She waited until everyone came into the classroom before greeting them.

"Hello! Thank you all for joining Young Entrepreneurs! Hopefully, we'll have a very good semester and make a little money, because that's what entrepreneuring is all about! Today, we're going to introduce ourselves by way of one of the most important items an entrepreneur can have: a business card. If you already have a business card, great! If you don't, there's some sturdy paper, pen, and markers, and you can make a makeshift one, with your name, what sort of business you're really interested in, or anything else you'd like to include. Mine has a little Turtle & Canary emblem in the corner, see? So let's take a few minutes to do that and then we'll just chat and stuff today!

"For next week, I'd like you all to think of lots of great ideas on what we can produce this semester to sell for the benefit of the club, okay?"
