It was nice to be back in the library after a summer off. He hadn't done much reading during said summer but he figured he could pick that back up now that he was back in the land of books.

Of course, he wasn't reading just yet. He was more taking a walk around the library just so he remembered where everything was.

Once that was down, he settled behind his desk with a blank sheet of paper and a pen. Letter writing was hard.

Sam was smiling as the students wandered, in, once again nursing a large cup of coffee. "First, I'd like to welcome you all back to class. For those of you who aren't fulfilled with only one physics class a week, I'd like to announce that there's a science lab that will be open once a week for anything you'd like to do, science-wise, barring intentional explosions or things that would be more appropriately conducted in the Danger Room Shop. This will probably be on Saturdays. It's a good place to work on and test your pumpkin chuckers before the final exam. Speaking of which, I'll need your pairings at the end of class, please."

It's perfectly safe. It's just technobabble. )

"Good morning, students," Ghanima said as the class started.  "Welcome back, I'm glad to see I did not frighten any of you off.  Today we are starting with the first chapter, 'Laying Plans.'"

"War."  Ghanima surveyed them sharply, making sure she had everyone's full attention.  "The term calls to mind battlefields and generals.  The most successful battles, however, are not fought with soldiers, but behind closed doors with words.  They are the battles you never hear about, because there is no glory to them."

"There is the war of the sexes, the war between companies and corporations, economic wars, ideological wars, political wars, and wars between the social classes, all of which tend to start on a more basic level, and escalate to the stereotype.  Whether you are wooing a romantic partner or a business rival, or meeting an enemy with your weapon drawn, the same principals hold true."

"Now, I'd like you to pair up, and discuss which of the five constant factors you feel to be the most important, and why."

[OOC:  For those of you reading along at home, here's a condensed version of Art of War.  *cuddles her copy*  Please wait for the OCD to go up, before you run wild!]

Today, the class was back inside a regular classroom, even though this one was a bit dark with the lights out and the shades pulled down. "Welcome! It's good to see that you're all back for another week," said Mike, grinning. "This week, we're going to be talking about the next achievement on our list, electricity. Oh, and just in case you guys need some more light, I've got something for you right here." He started passing out candles, one for each student.

"Believe it or not, folks, there was once a time where you needed a candle or some kind of oil lamp if you were out and about after sunset. That all changed when Thomas Edison perfected the incandescent light bulb. Problem is that you can't use a light bulb without the electricity to power it, so his next move was to develop an electricity distribution system to bring electrical powers to consumers. Edison favored a direct current system, but eventually the country adopted the alternating current system proposed by Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse. Thanks to their work, I can flip a switch over here on the wall and we don't need those candles anymore," said Mike, turning the overhead lights on.

"I'm sure the power systems that some of you have in the future are a lot more advanced than what we have here, but the point here is that without electricity, we wouldn't have lights or computers or any sort of modern appliance that you can imagine."

As the students came into the Danger Shop, they would find it exactly as it was last week, with one big change. The desks were no longer in front of all the cushiony pillows for sitting. No, they were laying in a heap in a corner of the room, hosting a crackling and pleasant fire.

It was best not to ask.
