Today's class was being held in the Danger Room, which was set up to look like a room full of television monitors. There were a large number of desks, each with its own computer and keyboard. One of the desks was occupied by a man in a wheelchair, and Mike was standing next to him. "Good morning, ladies and gentlemen," said Mike. "Please go ahead and take a seat at any empty desk. For today's class, we'll be looking at a completely different computer application. Welcome to the surveillance room of the Montecito resort and casino. Every one of these monitors shows us what is happening on a different camera, from the blackjack tables to the elevators to the pool."

It's Tuesday again, and it's another day of opening the library for Anemone and Gulliver.

Once the class was assembled, Aly pushed herself up off her seat on her desk.  "Afternoon to all of you.  Last week, we talked about disguises and their use.  Next week is your spring break which means that all of you can run off to wherever you like, and all of us teachers will enjoy our break.  Which means that this week, we have a lot to talk about."  She grinned.  "Yeah, that didn't follow at all, but let's pretend it did."

"Today, we're going to talk about language.  Any good spy should speak at least a few languages that are used in her area of operations.   And by at least a few, I mean as many as possible," Aly glanced over the class.  "Even if you can't speak the language well enough to pass as a native - and don't overestimate your abilities, not everyone can - you need to speak well enough to recruit natives to spy for you and be able to communicate when you need to."

"I'm pretty sure most of you know more than one language," she said.  "For many of you, English is definitely not the language you were born with.  So.  What I want everyone to do today is to pair up and communicate without using English.  You can use sign, do charades, find another language in common, just no English."  She grinned.  "Why?  Because you all should see what it's like if you don't bother to learn a language and try to spy."

"Until our next class, I want all of you to start learning another language.  I don't care what it is, something that you find useful or interesting," Aly threw an amused glance at Willow if she were there.  "You can consider it homework.  If you don't have an idea where to start?  There's a language club this semester, and I believe one of the heads of it is in our class," she smiled at Inara if she were there.  "It meets Fridays in the library, check it out if you need some direction."

"Any questions?  Then pair up an get to."

“Realians,” Juli said, once her students were settled, “are what, in my universe, we have called our organic artificial people.”

“These ‘people’ are mass-produced and designed for specific purposes—and each model is micro-managed down to the their very basic thoughts and emotions. Their personality traits. Mind control, almost, to draw in what we talked about last class—except for one important difference. They never had any other existence.”

“Today we’ll be discussing two of the most common models that are mass-produced. The ‘soldier’ type, and the, for lack of a better term ‘secretarial’ type. What do you think the most desirable traits, and therefore the ones that are most often programmed into their existence, are? What would be the least desirable traits for these two types to have? Why?”

“How many of these desirable traits do you think an ordinary person has? Or an ordinary soldier? Secretary? Keep these questions in mind as you decide for yourselves five traits that would be most useful to have in a soldier, or a secretary. After that, split off to compare and contrast your reasoning for each trait.”

"In honor of Monday's holiday," Nathan said as he passed around handouts, "this week we're focusing on Constitutional Law. Of course we've touched on it a lot already, but with regards to how it affects our lives now. Let's take a trip back in time - uh, not literally - to talk about the people who sat down and created this document in the first place. The founding fathers. And so help me if any of you American students don't know which of the presidents honored on Monday was a founding father." Nathan gave the class a look just to make sure that was clear.

"Today we like to hold up the founding fathers as paragons of democracy," Nathan continued. "Flawless individuals who did nothing but say well-crafted statements on liberty, and occasionally allowed their wives to sew flags. But you'll find that they were human, just like u - well, just like most of us." Nathan cleared his throat, looking apologetic for any offense that might have caused.

"So let's get to know them. Intimately." Nathan pointed out the last piece of the packet. "Who Wants to Marry a Founding Father? Or mother, if your tastes run that way. Answer the questions, get your result, tell us all a little something about your new spouse."

Nathan grinned. "Personally I'm curious to see if any of you end up with the guy with one leg who couldn't shut up if you paid him. Good luck!"
