Art 101, Period 4, Class 11 (Monday 11-26)

There was a box with a sign that said 'Cameras here' on Steve's desk today, and a large table with all sorts of art supplies: paint, ink clay, stones, glue, glitter, feathers, magazines to cut photos from, among other moddable things.

"So mixed media," Steve began, "is kind of like collage, only not, in that collage can be included in mixed media. There's a handout at each of your work stations that will explain more. Your assignment for today is to begin a mixed media project, as you are by now familiar with all the media you might need to complete one. This room will be open over the next few weeks for you to continue working on your projects. Your completed project will be evaluated as part of your final grade--and before you 'freak out,' remember I will be grading effort, not talent." Steve paused for a long moment, then broke out in a broad grin. "You'll find some other literature at your work stations, as well. Next week, we'll be going on a field trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. We won't be able to stay there more than a few hours because I might be identified, so I've provided you with some brochures and maps of the gallery to let you start thinking about how to spend your time there. Meet me at the parking lot by the causeway next Monday at the beginning of the lunch period. Are there any questions?"

Wilson was waiting for his students this morning with a good natured smile on his face and a gingerbread latte in his hand. There was a spread of holiday yummies ranging from spice cakes to cookies and other things determined to add pounds to your waistline.

As everybody got settled, he set his coffee aside and shoved his hands in his pockets.

"Good morning everybody, I hope we all had a lovely weekend?"

US Government [Tuesday, November 27, 1st period]

Josh was paging through a copy of the Congressional Record, looking very thoughtful, when the class arrived. Pages of the text had been tabbed. Josh was doing research. That was probably not a good sign.

He smiled at them, then directed Lana over to the DVD player. "Turns out it's almost December and I haven't mentioned any of the other branches of government. It's not that important--they don't get motorcades. But on the theory that the branches are equal, let's meet the Congress, and how a bill becomes a law."

He waited for the video to end before consulting his notes again. "So, that's how a bill supposedly becomes law." He laughed. "Generally, there's less singing."

He put his notes down. "Any questions? Confused about some of the vocab in the book? Filibusters? Wondering what a second-degree amendment is? Interested in hearing about a votorama?" He waved his hands at the pastries on his desk. "Grab a donut and talk to me."
