Ares seemed in a very chipper mood today as he addressed the class.

"Easy lesson today, just read the handouts, and think about what you might be able to achieve using only items from your own wardrobes," he said gesturing. "Something in the air gives me the impression that you might need the information soon."

The chirpiness combined with the noticeable lack of anything likely to humiliate the students was probably a bad sign.

After reluctantly seeing Lana off to her 1st period class, Chris had gotten a message from Aziraphale, asking him to cover class today. He quickly showered, printed out the lesson information from his email and orbed to J,GOB so he could provide some coffee and pastries.

As such, when the students arrived, they would find Chris sitting on the desk in the front of the room and a selection of goodies on a side table.

"Morning," Chris said, once everyone had arrived and taken their seats. He was frowning a little when he realized that there were a few people missing that he had expected to see. "Aziraphale couldn't make it today, but he sent me his lesson plans."

"He also wanted me to remind you all about the special project next week. Next Tuesday during second period, we will be meeting at the Perk for an extra credit project. Throughout second period, you will be giving free fortune readings to anyone who comes by and asks for one. This is not a required activity. Extra credit will be applied to participants, but the attendance requirement will be waved for that day. You can probably email or call him with any questions about it.

There's also a discussion topic. Can games of chance be a form of prophecy? If you flip a coin or draw lots, are the results pre-determined? What kinds of signs and omens do you incorporate into your daily beliefs? Break up into small groups to discuss."

He looked around anxiously after he finished the lecture and was very disturbed to realize that Lana hadn't made it to class.

Aly had listened to the radio (duh) and had quickly changed her lesson plans to match.

"I had another lesson plan for today," Aly said once everyone was there.  "But this one was on my list of topics too, and it seems far too appropriate for this week.  I hope you all don't need it, but here we go."

She handed out a thick booklet of First Aid situations along with a First Aid kit.  "In case you haven't been listening to the radio, there's a pretty nasty flu or something going around.  Already I see that there aren't quite as many people here as there usually are.  So...I hope none of this is needed and whatever sickness it is goes away quickly but this is helping healers 101."

"First thing?  Do what they tell you to and get out of their way," she said.  "Trust me, if you haven't been on the end of a doctor's lecture about how you're slowing them down when they're trying to help people?  You don't ever want to be.  It's...scary.  And I don't use that word all that often.  Secondly?  You need to take care of them too.  Healers are all stubborn, stubborn people who generally won't acknowledge they're sick if they're in the middle of a collapse.  So keep an eye on them, bring them sandwiches and coffee, and make sure they're not overworking.

"It sounds like one of the big problems right now is a fever," Aly continued after a long pause to look at the room more closely.  She frowned for a moment but continued.  "If you haven't taken care of people with a fever before, you want to be sure they're drinking as much water as possible and keep cold cloths nearby to help relieve the fever a bit.  Everything else?  What I said before.  Do what the doctors tell you to do."

She paused, eyeing the class again.  "If you're not feeling well or a friend's not feeling well, take them down to the clinic.  There's nothing that's worth infecting others or making yourself worse by not getting proper treatment.  Take care of each other.  You're all good at that."

Sometime in the afternoon, the PA system crackled to life.

"Attention students. This is Principal Washburn with a very important announcement. As many of you have heard or noticed, there is a flu-like illness spreading across the island. First of all, the administration would like to advise everyone to take extra care in staying healthy. Make sure to wash your hands, use clean glasses and silverware, and try to avoid sharing bodily fluids as much as possible. You can all survive for a few celibate days, I promise.

"Secondly, if you do become sick, do not stay in the dorms. There is an emergency clinic set up at town hall, and the doctors, nurses, and healers there are the most well-equipped to help you. Make sure you go there as soon as you start feeling ill, and do not try to take care of yourself, because you will only succeed in infecting the people around you.

"I'm aware that the internet and phones do not seem to be working, and I promise, that will be investigated as soon as this epidemic is under control. Thank you, and be safe."

Professor Tomoe wasn't taking the class this week. Instead, Vice Principal Hades was there, looking thrilled to be there as usual. Of course, the normal hint of malice was a little more prominent today.

"Sit down and try not to cough up a lung. Today's topic is raising the dead, because Tomoe's a twisted man and drinks the local Kool-Aid. Anyway. Even though this is a class on science of the mad variety, I don't care. Science is for folks who don't have powers and that doesn't concern me. Bringing back the dead is a piece of cake. It's once they're back that you've gotta worry. Usually they're pretty annoyed at being disturbed and want revenge for whatever got them dead and in the Underworld in the first place. Then sometimes you get zombies. Good fun. Let's give this a whirl.

You have the power to bring back someone. They were dead. Now they're not, thanks to you. They can go on to lead a full and productive life. There's a catch. They owe you. Neither you nor the formerly deceased can get out of it. It's all in the contract that you can't break. What would you get the dearly not-so-departed to do to repay their debt? Go. Discuss. Give your answers. Try to keep your organs on the inside while you do it."

Thursday frowned. She arrived in the morning to find the library still closed up and no Anemone in sight. More concerned than annoyed, she went about opening up the place for the day. She'd track down her aide later. Right now she needed coffee.

Naomi had handwavily been contacted to say that Professor Taylor had caught the flu that seemed to be going around and therefore couldn’t teach today’s class. Since she was the TA she was going to be teaching the lesson for that day.

She was slightly nervous as she began speaking, “Professor Taylor has the flu and can’t be here to teach today’s class,” she said, “so I’m going to be teaching for today. Since the syllabus had framing scheduled for today’s class that’s what we’ll be working on this lesson,”

Naomi then proceeded to give a brief but detailed lecture on framing, before she said what that lesson’s project would be, “For today’s project we’re going to work on making a framed structure,”
