Aly had had a rather long and exciting night.  Which resulted in very, very little sleep.  And that possibly showed either in her rather ramshackle appearance or in the class that the students were about to experience.

She waited for her students to arrive at the Danger Shop with an expression of glee and amusement on her face.

Tim bounded into the shop today with a smile on his face and a nod to CyberHeidi. "Today, I thought we'd step it up a bit and do something more than just a faucet. I thought we'd also throw in a garbage disposal into the mix to get a better feel for how plumbing works, because if your plumbing doesn't work your life is very uncomfortable. Heh heh heh."Read more... )

The desks were back in the lab this week. The only really big change to the usual setup was the addition of a very large plastic bin at the front of the room. Prof Tomoe waited until all the students had taken their seats before launching into his lecture.

"Good afternoon, students! Now that we've had an introduction to how lasers work, we're going to move on to the most important room you will ever set foot in: your laboratory.

"What makes a good lab? Well, that depends what type of made science you decide to specialize in. Since my PHD is in Genetic Engineering, I have mine set up with enough space for my test tubes and chemical mixtures. Some scientists prefer to have large galvanic machines and lightening rods in their laboratories. Still other prefer automated machines and enough space to convert sports cars into machines capable of time travel. Regardless of what you prefer, there are three thing you must include in your lab."

He grabbed a piece of chalk, and turned to write on the blackboard.

1) POWER SOURCE
2) SECURITY DEVICES
3) COFFEE MAKER

He turned back to face the class. "And why should you have these three things? Well, since Mad Science often requires large, blinking machines with no clear purposes, you'll need your own large power source to make sure they keep running properly. And since much of Mad Science is about pushing the boundaries of human knowledge further than those 'conventional' scientists would ever dream of going, you'll want to make sure that you have proper security measures in place from those who would dare to meddle with your experiments. And a coffee machine, because it's rather inadvisable to operate machines that can tear apart the very fabric of the universe while you're half asleep and drowsy." He looked at the students to make sure that they had all heard that warning.

"For today's class, I want you to pair up with someone else." He pulled the lid off the plastic bin, and held up a handful of small, coloured, plastic Danish stacking blocks. "The two of you are going to build me your dream lab out of Lego. Try to come to a compromise about what to put in it, and be prepared to justify to me what you picked. If you put a Demon Shark in there, I'll be curious to know why."

He beckoned the students up to the front to grab handfuls of Lego bricks. "Happy building."

Ares addressed his class once they'd all come in. "Good afternoon, class, today Aly will be judging your work," he nodded towards the judge's desk. "So I expect you to all show her the proper respect."

"Hopefully, you will all have noticed that I did not ask for you to bring in clothing this lesson, that's because we're not going to be dealing with clothing today," he said, gesturing to a large assortment of jars and equipment at the front of the classroom. "Body paint." He launched into a lecture on the various historical uses of body paint, especially in regards to warfare for some crazy reason, before explaining that they'd have to come up with and implement body paint designs. "Now, regulations about so-called 'appropriate behaviour' prevent me from ordering you to actually strip naked to facilitate this, but I would recommend wearing only underwear this class, unless you want to ruin all your clothing."

Tuesday, September 18, Second Period

The usual offerings of delicious breakfast treats, along with tea and coffee, were in place on the table in the center of the room. Aziraphale was kicked back in his chair, reading a novel.

No really, he was. It had a picture of a woman in a froofy old-fashioned dress on the cover, too. He stuck it under his chair once the class began to assemble, however.

"Good morning! Today's discussion will focus on the perceptions of prophets and fortune-tellers in popular culture. I'm sure all of you, whether you've had personal experience with prophecy or not, came to this class with a specific idea in mind of what constitutes the sort of person who makes predictions. Perhaps it was that of a traditional witch, or a gypsy reading tea leaves, or even the man who tells you what tomorrow's weather will be. Your experiences, and the society you're raised in, are going to color your ideas about people who predict the future. As well as the level of acceptance you're likely to feel toward what those people tell you.

"So your discussion topic today is this: In your own view, does the methodology a person uses affect the "validity" of his or her predictions? For example, is a prediction from a professional tarot reader more, less or as valid as a prediction from a religious seer? Please keep in mind that there are no right or wrong answers, but I would like to hear what each of you has to say on the subject, and I'd like to hear your reasons for agreeing or disagreeing with your fellow students."

Once the discussion was over, Aziraphale indicated a large palmistry chart on the wall. "Today you'll be doing your first real hands-on exercise, if you'll excuse the pun. Chieromancy, or the practice of telling a person's future through the shape and coloring of their hands and the arrangement of lines on their palms, is perhaps one of the best-known methods of fortune-telling." He passed around some handouts, and gave a brief lecture on chieromancy.

"Now, I'd like you to choose up partners. For the remainder of class, I want you to practice reading one another's palms. Before you leave today, please remember to turn in your homework from last week. We'll be having a test next week, so your assignment is to study what we've discussed thus far."

[ooc: You get to choose your partners today, but the RNG will be making an appearance again in future, just to keep things interesting. Please wait for the OCD threads are up and class is in session.]

Once everyone was seated Yondaime wandered into class late, with an eye patch over his left eye and looking very, very annoyed. “Arr…” he said lamely.
