For a change the class had assembled at the main campfire. This probably had nothing to do with wanting to flout Umbridge's decrees.

Really.

"Now, in your futile quest for redemption, another of the difficulties you will encounter is backsliding. Kill an enemy you could have let surrender here, let another drown while begging for help there, torch a village of innocents, that kind of thing. In any case, during today's scenario, the heroes are going to have started to backslide, badly, and it's the sidekicks' job to make them see the light. Heroes, make them work for it. Sidekicks, if it gets too bad, remember a rake to the back of the head is everyone's friend."

"Hey, guys," Hannelore said, waving as everyone filed into the Danger Shop. "So okay, sometimes when you want everything organized, there's other stuff going on, all at once, right? And you get kind of flustered and you know what makes that worse? Just setting stuff aside and acting like you don't need to make sure everything goes in the right place, because then it'll just get lost and you'll get more flustered and it's just an endless cycle and it's the worst ever."

She gave a little shudder, and waved a hand at the Shop, which was made up like a coffee shop. "My friend Dora at home runs a coffee shop, and like every single day, that happens. Customers come in, Faye scares them, they drop coffee, and no one cleans it up until the end of the day. Or they come in and ask for something with syrup in it and then the syrup? Just doesn't get put back. It's horrible."

"So, uh, I want you guys to prove you can do better than that. You all get to man the counter, and I'm going to see if you can deal with customers and keep stuff neat and up to my standards the whole time, okay? Because that? Is the real world."

The announcements today are short and pointed. "If anyone, from this point forward, is found breaking any decree I have set forth, punishment will be swift and unquestioning. I have tried to be lenient and I have tried to be nice but after the events of yesterday, I can see that you all have no appreciation for what I am trying to do for this school."

She paused. "Just because your previous principal seemed to fail in all aspects of her job doesn't mean all of you students, teachers and staff will be allowed to follow her lead. She is not here anymore. She is gone and she is not coming back."

Not in Umbridge's mind, at least.

"So, start listening," she hissed. "Or you will find me quite the unpleasant person to deal with. My office is open should anyone have need to discuss matters with me."

[React, of course! No students called in today because my schedule might be a bit awry but office hours are open so feel free to send anyone you'd like.]

Xander? Bitchily grim as he walks around pointing out various pieces of Very Loud Equipment?

"So yeah, today's job? Test all the equipment. Power drills, saws, cement mixers. Gotta make sure the stuff is still running when we send it all back." It may not make enough noise to bother Umbridge or even get her notice, but every little bit helps, right? Plus if anybody's trying something else, every distraction helps.

He's almost pissed-off enough to forget to tell them to put on proper safety gear while doing it.

Aly was torn between bouncing and being very, very serious at this. A few workstations around the campfire were set up with tubes, funnels, different powdered chemicals and what looked like gunpowder. Possibly because it was gunpowder.

"Okay, change of plans for today.  What we're going to do is make fireworks," she said with a grin. "We're using live black powder so be careful. This isn't a time to mess around."

She quickly gave everyone the rundown on how to put together Roman candles and falling leaf shells.

Aly grinned.  "Now fireworks are useful for a great many things.  Amusement.  Distractions. They're very good for the latter.  Other things that work well for both distractions and ways to annoy people might be stink bombs and smoke bombs.  The latter's different from the smoke grenades a few weeks ago just by being a bit easier to make."  She pointed to a table where there were quite a few of both varieties.  "Try them out.  Try them away from the main class please.  And as long as you will all use them properly - remembering that gunpowder needs to go in the weapons' locker - you're free to take the fireworks you made or some of the stink and smoke bombs back to the dorms with you."  Everyone could have three guesses for what Aly meant by properly.  The first two really didn't count.

"Other than that, any questions?  Requests for the last class next week?"

[OOC:  Apologies for the lame class.  It's been a really crap day so far.  I'm around but might be slow to respond to pings.  Please wait for the OCD is up.]
