Things you all need to know:
* You have to be at least 18 years of age to apply.
* This application session is open to EVERYONE - current players and newcomers alike!
* All players can have a maximum of four characters total
* We will only accept one student and one teacher per player in this application session (you are welcome to send in as many applications as you like, but only one of each will be accepted)
* Students are required to (when instructed) sign up for 2 summer workshops and keep up with those workshops.
* Teachers are required to teach at least 1 workshop per week (for the entire term - that's 7-8 weeks), keep an eye on your students, give them something to do each week and be accessible to students when needed.
* All accepted characters go on probation for the first summer term. After that time, if there's anyone who's disappeared or is being a major problem, we'll talk to them about it and possibly remove them. But it's hard to get to the removal stage.
* Improvisation. Fandom High is a balance between planning and improvisation. Some people plan plots, but a lot of the day-to-day stuff is purely improvisation where you throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens.

What's needed to apply:
* Make sure that the character you want to apply with isn't already here
* Fill out the respective application form.
* Be prepared to create a journal for your character that does not and will not contain entries from other games.
* Read the Fandom High handbook. It contains all the rules/guidelines you'll need.
* Time commitment. This game is a LOT of fun, but things do happen quickly and it does require checking in a couple of times a week and throwing your character into threads wherever you find one you want.
* Language skills. Seriously, if you cannot write in complete sentences and use basic spelling and grammar people are going to want to throttle you. That being said, we don't expect perfection. But this game is based on interaction, and you're going to want people to be able to understand you or they won't want to interact with you.

What happens once you've applied:
Once your application has been received, we will send you an email to confirm that we got it. Applications will then be held until the application period is closed. We will sort through them and let you know whether your character has been accepted or not. Please note: if we get two or more applications for the one character, we will ask every person who applied for that character to send in a back-up in case they don't get their first pick, so have a second choice on hand!

Accepted players will be asked to create the journal for their character and to accept invitations to the game communities. New characters are allowed to start playing on . There will be a big welcome post for you all.

Notes for Current Players:
* If you are planning on dropping a character at the end of this semester, please let the admin know ASAP.
* Although the prospect of apping a new character is shiny and delightful, please take into consideration whether you will be able to keep up with all of your characters. If characters are neglected, it could hamper your chances of getting new characters in the future.

Monday, April 9, Period Two

The class assembles in the Danger Shop. To one side is a small clearing with a pleasant cottage, to the other side is a forest full of flowers.

CLASS EXERCISE: "Your assignment today deals with the story of "The Fairy Serpent". I'm certain you're all familiar with variations of this story -- "The Fairy Serpent" is a Chinese tale, but the story is better-known in Western countries as "Beauty and the Beast". It also has strong similarities to several of the stories we've read throughout our class. You may have noticed that this tale presents examples of four fairly typical gender roles: the father, who dotes on his children but whose foolish actions put the family into trouble; the serpent, really a prince under a curse who needs help in being freed; the older daughter, who is too selfish to put the needs of her family before her own; and the younger daughter, whose self-sacrifice and cleverness rescue them all.

"For this exercise, I'd like you to break into groups of four. Each of the four should take on one of the four roles. But instead of playing out the story as you read it, I'd like you to think about the stereotypes for the role you've chosen, and then try to break those stereotypes. Can you present us with a new interpretation of these four characters?"

ASSIGNMENT: "Next week we will have our last test of the term, and the week after you will present your final projects to the class."

[OOC: Please use the OCD threads to join up into your groups. You can simply discuss the possibilities for turning around the stereotyped gender roles, but please also feel free to play out the story with your new and "improved" characters. Tag the OOC thread if you have questions. And, of course, please wait for the OCD is up and class is in session.]

Anakin leaned against his desk as he waited for the students to arrive. "Okay," he said, clasping his hands together. "We spent a few weeks talking about the Seven Deadly Sins. Today we'll talk about the Seven Virtues: chastity, abstinence--which aren't the same thing, believe it or not--liberality, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility."

Anakin...was good at pretty much none of those. "These words could all be used to describe Jedi," Anakin continued, walking around the room, "though, admittedly, not me as a young apprentice. As difficult as it is to avoid the pitfalls of the sins, the ideals of the virtues are equally as hard to attain." He waved a hand. "Pair up and discuss which of these virtues you'd excel at, and which one you would find the most difficult."

He turned a warning eye towards Dean and Sam. "If you two get into another argument today, Force help you," he warned. "Patience has never been my particular virtue."
