Wednesday, March 28, Period One

As usual, the list of absences is projected on the screen behind M’s desk. She looks singularly unamused as she surveys the class.

"As you can see, we're compiling quite the list of absences. Anyone with more than two absences who has not spoken to me by next Tuesday regarding the classes you've missed will have your name submitted to the office for detention."

Once M felt that the students were properly chastised, she continued. "Today, although God knows why, I've decided to give you something of a break. You'll be viewing a film on the espionage business, Silverhand with James Bund. Please keep in mind that this is a fictional portrayal, and should not be taken as being in any way representative of the way real spies behave. Next week, we'll meet in the Danger Shop for our unit on specialty firearms."

Hunting 101 -- Class 11 (Wednesday period 7)

When the students came in, they found a handout beside the sign-in sheet. Also there were a number of books on various myths and legends and fairy tales and oral traditions piled on a desk near the front of the room.

John was standing up at the front of the classroom, leaning on the front of his desk as usual, though he seemed to exude an air of almost smug happiness that was a little out of the ordinary for him. He waited until everyone was seated then began. ( ''I'm going to keep it short today.'' )

Extraterrestrial Civilizations - Class 11 [3/28, Period 4]

"We sadly had another cancellation of a scheduled guest," Ellie explained as the class arrived. "So today's another movie day. This time we'll watch 'NE - The Not-Earthbound.' I'd also like you to write a short paragraph about how you think the alien's appearance affected his visit to Earth. If he, say, looked like a hot chick, how would his experience have been different?"

Matilda walked into class with a bit of bounce in her step. Today she got to teach class for REAL. And Chuck wouldn’t be coming in to stop her. She stands in front of the class, a little dwarfed by the large chalkboard behind her, but she smiles none-the-less.( Cut for rambling )

“Well there’s a lot more but I want to give you a chance to ask me any questions before class ends,” she stands ready to call on anyone who raises their hand.

Creative Writing, Period 6 3/28

Yuki seems actually ready to address the class for once. He turns to look at the chalkboard behind him. Has he ever used it? He shrugs doubtfully and picks up a piece of the chalk and faces the class again.

“Well I assume that you’re all nearly done with your full rough drafts. This is the point where you have to work on making in longer or shorter, depending on how many pages you currently have. Because I really don’t feel like spending my whole grading week reading your stories they have a maximum of 10 pages. You’re not allowed to go over. So anyone who has a tendency to overwrite, this is a lesson that’s not for you. The advice I have for you is to hand your story to the stupidest person you know and give them a red pen. Tell them to circle all the things they understand. And to cross out things they “totally don’t get.”” Yes that came complete with air quotes.

“Then you can take out the crap they don’t understand. Or just make it simpler. There. That’ll help you shorten your stories. Now for all the underachievers in here; you need at least 8 pages. So if you’re under that, it’s time I taught you a popular writing technique by the name of ‘describing unimportant shit.’ I’m sure lots of your favorite authors use it. So the activity for today is to pick something simple you did today and write as much as you can about it. Talk about everything. Compare the carpet to a golfing range. Go crazy.”

“When you finish, turn it in and you’re free to go. Any questions?” He looks down at the chalk and tries to think of something to do with it. He finally decides to just toss it at the board and watch it shatter. Afterwards he sits down at his laptop and starts to type.

"Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of club for a few weeks. Today? We're going to be rping over AIM. It's pretty much the same as the real person last time, only you have to give the person you're playing with some narrative since they can't actually see you. The hat's right here, I uh, kinda went nuts with the sci fi shows, but there's plenty of others as well.

Oh, foods in the back and stuff. You can use your regular aim handle or create one just for your character for today."

Folklore and Fact: Mystical Artifacts, Week 11 (Thurs/2nd Period)

The display screens at the front of the room were running a slideshow that consisted of images of fire, today, and to add to the effect Sakura had placed two small, ornate braziers one on either side of the screen, both of them flickering away.

“Today we'll be discussing ( the concept of fire . . . )

Once the discussion had subsided, she said, “Next week we'll be having a guest speaker; my colleague, Eiji Takaoka, will be coming to discuss the Hundred-Demons Mirror and the mythos of the demon race known in my world as the Ashu. I hope that you give him the proper respect . . . even if he doesn't appear to deserve it."
