"Unfortunately, our guest speaker for today had to cancel," Ellie said. "So instead we'll be watching a movie, Near Meetings of the Third Sort."

[ooc: Apologies for lame class. Floon low and I'm likely going to be buried under pastel flowers for the day as our sample Easter bouquets arrive and need to be processed.]

After another restless night's sleep, Isabel opened the library, a grande mocha in head.

John was leaning against his desk as the class filed in. The sign up sheet was in its usual place and beside it were several handouts.

Good afternoon. )

Wednesday, March 14, Period One

Once the students were all assembled, M stood in front of her desk, the screen behind her projecting the current absence list. She surveyed the group before her, looking stern.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
D'Anna Beirs (Class Eight)
JC Broots (Class Eight)
Jim Ellison (Class Eight)
Barbara Gordon (Class Seven, Class Eight)
Alex Krycek (Class Eight)
Ranma Saotome (Class Eight)

"Before we begin, I want to call attention to the names on the screen. I will need excuses for your absence by the end of the week. Written excuses are preferable, and ones that actually provide a legitimate reason for missing class would be ideal." Her expression suggested that she didn't expect to achieve that 'ideal'.

"Now, we will begin our lecture."

Then M did something rather unexpected.

Surprise! )

[ooc: Please wait for the OCD is now up!.]

Yuki paces the front of the room a bit impatiently. He seems distracted as usual. “Well since I can tell you’re all thrilled to death about your stories and are clearly working very hard to stay on top of your work, I’m giving you a bit of a change of pace today. You’re going to write poetry.”

“Now at this age I expect you’d all be at least slightly familiar with poetry. It’s good for expressing yourself much more concisely than a novel or short story. Poems can rhyme or have special form, certain rhyme patterns, certain numbers of syllables and lines. It doesn’t really matter what kind of poem you write today, just turn in one by the end of the period.”

“Oh and if you need some examples, here’s two that don’t rhyme and two that do: On Turning Ten, Picnic, Lightning, Shall I Compare Thee To a Summer’s Day?, and Dream Deferred. I don’t care if you talk but I better have a poem from all of you by the time class ends.”

((OOC: Oh the week before Spring Break is such a joy... Billy Collins makes it better I supose.))

That whole being on time thing? Yeah, not happening again. Chuck strolled in the door about half a minute after the bell rang. He didn’t seem to be concerned with any sort of bell contest today.

Chuck turned to the class. He gave them all a very sour look. After all, it was their fault he was there.

Time for misinformation )

[ooc: OCD to come. You've been waiting so patiently, perhaps just a little bit more won't hurt... is ready like Speed Racer at the starting line!]

Today, the display screens at the front of the classroom featured a painting of a naked man and woman in front of a fruit tree that might be familiar to most of the students. There was no lockbox present this week; instead there was a large, grapelike red fruit prominent on the table. If anyone was giggling or acting childish at the nudity on the screens, Sakura was ignoring it. She might be giving a mental eyeroll of "bitch, please," but outwardly she was ignoring it.

"The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil," she said, "is best known from the Biblical story of Adam and Eve. You here at Fandom High are fortunate to have as one of your teachers someone with firsthand knowledge -- please pardon the pun -- of this tree. Mister Aziraphale has courteously agreed to visit our class here today and share his experiences of the Tree with you . . . although details may vary from his dimension to mine. Or to yours."

Sakura nodded to Aziraphale and stepped back, letting him have the spotlight. )

[OOC: Many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] a_phale for agreeing to guest lecture today! Please note that SP is the keyword for both of us today due to RL factors, for which I heartily, heartily apologize. Class Info Post is here, and OCD is up! Also, er, yeah, that first link might be classic art but might not be work safe.]

Geordi was seated at his desk as he waited for the students to enter the classroom. Once everyone was seated and the noise had quieted down he stood up and moved round to the front of his desk and faced the class.

Elliot's eyes were red and her mood somber as she came into the classroom just at the bell. "Hi guys," she said. "We were supposed to learn about the endocrinology system today. Which is the most awesome system in the body - it controls all of your hormones, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, thyroid." She paused so the class would see how serious this was, wiping her nose on her sleeve. "But thanks to the flood last week, the text I was using to write your class is wrecked, and my very special handmade endocrinology board game is ruined -- half of it blew out to sea and the other half is covered in mildew."

She looked mournful. "There was vocabulary .. and hand-colored flashcards ... and of course I was an idiot and didn't realize what had happened until last night, when it was too late to even try to make the game again."

"So. No Endocrinology board game. Read the chapter in your books for homework, and for today -" her voice broke again "- today, just write a hundred words on your favorite organ or system of the body. We'll be back to regular classes next week."
