Today, V was quiet as students filed in, and once everyone was there, he gave a slight incline of his head and said, "Today, we are going to view a film. It is a rather great one, actually - a tale of a man who gave up everything in order to fulfill his desire for justice."

He pressed a button on a DVD player, and a screen at the front of the room lit up in dark grayscale. The Count of Monte Cristo The Duke of Montenegro began to play. "I'd like you all to simply watch, enjoy, and think about the film today. Perhaps put yourself in Monsieur handwavey meta for Dantes' boots, if you'd like. Just do watch, please."

[Apologies for the lame class. Real life school is demanding, and today the demand is most of my brainpower, woe. And thank you to [livejournal.com profile] multiplez for the meta, yay!]

Today there was an assortment of little tarts and scones for the kids to pick up and have with tea, cider, coffee or cocoa. Aziraphale really was out doing himself on the baking front.

Wilson was leaning against the front of the desk, sipping on some cider and waiting for everybody to get settled before starting class.

“Good afternoon. I hope everybody had a wonderful break and now we’re in to the final few classes of the semester.”

Let class begin! )

Aly surveyed the class with a grin as they filed into the empty Danger Room as they had been handwavily advised through email

"Good morning all.  I'm glad you all arrived without incident."  She adjusted the Danger Room controls for a second and suddenly the students were standing in the Great Hall of a large stone castle.  "Today is preparation for a practical demonstration of the skills you've learned thus far.  Next week, this castle will be filled with servants, nobility, spies, and visitors, and it will be your job to complete a mission that I assign at that time."

She took a seat on one of the benches in the room, and one might notice that she was wearing clothes that fit into the setting perfectly.  "This is a recreation of the castle of my home country.  I want you to spend today finding a partner to work with next week then exploring the castle.  Spies rarely get this opportunity so use it well.  Remember where places are, where hiding spots are, where you can listen to conversations without being heard.  If you have any questions, I'll be around."  She grinned.  "And if you're doing very well, I'll show you some hidden passages.  Keep everything you've learned in mind."

"So go to.  Find a partner, ask questions, explore."

[OOC:  *facepalm* I totally forgot today was Tuesday somehow.  I'm not assigning partners, but I think it should come out evenly.  If you'd rather a partner be assigned, let me know.  Feel free to mod (and have fun with!) the castle's design and what you find.  Just no people are present.  I'll be putting up OCD with different areas to check out so wait for it.  OCD is Up!]

Elliot handed out a thick packet as the students walked in.

"Hi. Today is botany day, which I know you have all been out of your minds with excitement for. It is the scientific study of plantlife, from the structural level to their purpose in the universe. Today, you're going to be looking at the structures." She explained the structural components and physiology of plants, only blushing a little as she talked about plant reproduction.

"We did a kind of casual dissection last week -- and thanks for cooking turkey for everyone, Jamie, it was only sort of gross -- but this week you're going to do it more seriously."

Elliot started tossing large hibiscus blossoms and small apples at the students, wincing if any hit their marks. "I want you to pair up, and we'll walk through dissections of the flower and the fruit. You're going to be looking at, um, the reproductive structures and kind of comparing and contrasting them. Make sure to fill in your lab reports."

Once the class was in and settled, Daisy stepped up and leaned against the chalk board. "Before we get started, I have two announcements. The first is that I've decided to change your final project. Instead of doing group scenes, I thought it would be more fun and more of a stretch of your acting abilities to do a murder mystery party, instead. Next week I'll give you your roles for the party; I'm going to ask that you keep your role to yourself and not talk to the other students in the class about it. The fun is to figure out who the killer is, after all, so I want to make sure that only myself and the killer know who got that role assigned.

"The second is that we will be participating as a class in the school's holiday pageant on December 8th. It seems some little chippy named Nadia Santos will be performing the song 'The Christians and the Pagans' for the pageant, so I thought it would be fun to have all of us act out the events of the song on stage. Sort of an interpretive dance kind of thing. Now, this isn't going to be for a grade, but I will consider it extra credit. You don't have to participate, but show some school spirit. Your friends won't laugh. No. Really. I mean it."

Daisy passed out sheets with the song lyrics on it.

"Angela? I'd like you to play Amber, if you don't mind, Briar, if you could be Amber's uncle, and you two," she pointed to the twins, whose names she still wasn't able to come close to pronouncing, "will share the role of Timmy. I think that will increase the impact of the youthful, innocent role in the show. John, I'd like you to be Jane. Show your fellow classmates that, as TA, you have the acting ability and flexibility to portray the part well. Zero? I know you're the leader of Teal Dear, would you mind leading the rest of the class as a band of dancing pagans and Christians? That'd be wonderful."

She wrote the list down on the board as she spoke:

Angela - Amber
Briar - Amber's uncle
Twins - Timmy
John - Jane
Zero - Chorus leader
Hamlet, JD, Jake, Sakura - dancing pagans and christians

Once the song was cast mostly, anyway, Daisy went back to leaning against the chalkboard. "Now, to do this properly, you're going to need costumes. I'd like you all to take this time to figure out what kind of costume you'd like to wear in the pageant. Remember the holiday theme, and keep in mind your character and what you think your character might wear. Think about their personality, their motivations. And think about the fact that you have to be able to move while wearing it."

[ooc: OCD is going up. And yes, I know that Daisy left out assigning the role of Amber's aunt. That will be filled by someone in particular. Those who received character assignments above can decide to swap roles and such if you want, just don't take the Amber's aunt role. Those who are listed as dancing pagans and chrsitians are the ones who didn't get back to me on the post yesterday, so you don't get special roles, so nyeah!

Participation in the pageant is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.]

Evie was getting the last of the ropes in place, and the lights. And then it was done.

*Real* excavation work could start next week.

Right now, she was drawing and photographing the last parts of the wreck that hadn't been done before.

A boombox might be set up on the deck, belting out Jake's CD. Which would explain the Johnny Cash.

[ooc: I'm off and on tonight. Homework + dinner guests. Have at the wreck, do what you will to the 16th Century Galleon, just don't break it aside from the already-existing hole in the bow.]

Peter had the towels and practice weapons set out in the salle, but he seemed to be a bit distracted.  He smiled at the group and waved towards the weapons.

"Go to, my friends.  If someone wants a spar or to simply run a few passes, come find me?  And be sure to warm up."

[OOC: *facepalm*  I don't know HOW I forgot BOTH my posts today but I apologise abjectly for the lateness and lameness]

Once the class was settled, Thursday launched straight into the topic. "Brave New World presents a future where the masses are placated by a drug called soma, where Henry Ford's mass production assembly line elevated him to god-like status and where literature is suppressed because it brings out too many emotions.

Literature has been feared in the past in both fiction, such as in Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 and in real life incidents such as bannings throughout the world and the Nazi book burning. As I understand it, the War with the Nazis in this timeline finished much earlier than in my own. I can assure you, it could have been - and was - much worse. Many works were lost forever.

For today's lesson you all have the power to change the world for the better. What drastic measures would you take to make people happy and less aggressive toward one another? What would you take away to calm people down? On the other hand, if there could only be one book left in the public world so that all other literature was suppressed in the name of a better future, what would you want to keep around?"

At the end of the class, Thursday addressed them all again. "Don't forget your final project is coming up. Next week is Dickens, so if you haven't started reading, start now. The week after we'll review and I've pushed the final project back to exam week. It won't take longer than the normal class period."
