Criminal Justice [first period, Tuesday 11/28]

Today, V was quiet as students filed in, and once everyone was there, he gave a slight incline of his head and said, "Today, we are going to view a film. It is a rather great one, actually - a tale of a man who gave up everything in order to fulfill his desire for justice."

He pressed a button on a DVD player, and a screen at the front of the room lit up in dark grayscale. The Count of Monte Cristo The Duke of Montenegro began to play. "I'd like you all to simply watch, enjoy, and think about the film today. Perhaps put yourself in Monsieur handwavey meta for Dantes' boots, if you'd like. Just do watch, please."

[Apologies for the lame class. Real life school is demanding, and today the demand is most of my brainpower, woe. And thank you to [livejournal.com profile] multiplez for the meta, yay!]

Jack settled down to watch the movie, wishing someone had thought to supply popcorn. It didn't take long before he was thoroughly engrossed.

Putting himself in the Count's boots? Not something he'd have a problem with. The guy had style.

River smiled at Jack. "I brought popcorn." And no, it wasn't because she knew about the film. She just liked popcorn.

"River, hey." Jack smiled warmly at her. "You're looking radiant today." He made a point of thinking it as well as saying it, then looked at her hopefully. "Popcorn that might be shared? Say, with me?"

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
River smiled back, feeling herself blushing a little. She offered him popcorn. "Popcorn might be shared with you," she said. "Like apples."

"Thank you." Jack grinned as he took a handful, then held up one piece, looking at it closely. "I'm not sure I can carve these into anything, though for you I'd be willing to try."

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"No carving of popcorns," River said. "Just eat them." She threw one up in the air and caught in in her mouth. "Did you celebrate thanksgiving?"

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can do that." As he proceeded to demonstrate, following her lead in the tossing and catching. "I did, even if I didn't know what it was about at the time. It was fun, nice to spend time appreciating things. And I got to celebrate it twice." The memory of the very personal way he'd ended up celebrating it - first with Cedric, and then with Sam - surfaced, and he smiled to himself and tried to shove it back down. "What about you?"

"I handwavilywent with Blair, Aziraphale and Wilson to Wilson's family. Interesting holiday. I like turkey."

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I like it too. And pie and everything else, even if Isabel made me peel potatoes," he said, pouting for a minute, though he wasn't at all serious. "I don't think I know Aziraphale - and that name's a mouthful - or Wilson. Or if I do, I don't remember it."

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, they're friends of mine," River said. "Teachers. Aziraphal is an angel, and Wilson is a doctor."

"You don't like peeling potatoes? And you didn't make potatoe sculptures?"

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nope, but we did try our hand at fortune telling with the peels," he replied before the first part of what she'd said sunk in. Not sure whether it was the revelation of Azriphale's angel status, or the casual way River revealed it, Jack blinked at her. "An angel?"

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, an angel," River replied. "What future did the peels tell you?"

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack blinked again. "Okay. And it was more the present than the future, and they told me I was going to be involved with two people who's names start with a C and an S." He laughed and admitted, "I might have nudged it a bit in that direction."

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"You cheated!" River grinned. She didn't seem to object.

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe. But it was worth it." Jack grinned back at her. "Tell me you wouldn't have done the same."

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would have made potato sculptures," River said, throwing Jack another popcorn.

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He caught it in his mouth and crunched happily before asking, "Gremlin heads? Or something else?"

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
She thought for a moment. "Ducks," she said.

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ducks?" he repeated, grinning. "Not turkeys?"

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Only with really big potatoes," River said.

Re: Watch the Film

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Good point. Ducks are much smaller. And cuter, from what I've seen," he said, then sat up as a thought ocurred to him. "Next big holiday we should do carvings. They could be centrepieces."

John watched the movie. He kinda got bored halfway through and started doodling on his paper.

Seely watched the movie intently.

Until about halfway through when he decided to start reenacting fight scenes using stationary.

Layla ended up getting far more engrossed into the movie than she'd expected.
