Monday, September 4, period 1

As the students enter the classroom, they'll discover two things immediately. First is that there are no traditional desks and chairs. Instead, the room has been arranged like a lounge, with comfortable armchairs and couches, with tables nearby for setting books and such. Second is a long table in the center of the arrangement of seating, filled with food -- teapots that pour whatever the drinker's favorite flavor might be (they even pour coffee if that's the drinker's preference), platters of various types of sweet and savory scones, and a large plate of warm homemade gingersnap cookies. The professor, dressed in neat dark-colored suit (because Wilson told him it made him look more teacher-like), is seated in one of the armchairs and is attempting not to fuss and dither.

A woman of medium height, capped with long, layered, auburn hair stood at the front of the classroom as the students entered. She leant against the desk with her arms folded and smiled warmly -- in that teacher kind of way -- watching as they selected their seats. Promptly at two o'clock, she cleared her throat and adjusted the dark-rimmed glasses perched on her nose. 'Good afternoon...' )

[OOC: Okay, folks, I'm still out of town at the con, so my responses are going to be extremely limited till I get home late tomorrow night. Slow play, unfortunately, will have to be the order of the day. The syllabus will be ready as soon as I can get home to my own texts and make sure I have the generic names for the systems down. Thanks! Please wait for the OCD. OCD up!]

Yomiko arrived at the library bright and early, a cup of coffee from the Perk in hand. She was pulling a little wheeled suitcase with a very nice briefcase strapped to it. She set the briefcase on the desk in her office and did not open it. Then she opened the suitcase, took out the books she'd taken from the library the week previously, and set to work reshelving them.

It was her first real day of work at this job. She hoped everything went well.

Figuring it would be best to get his first day of classes off to a good start by being available to his students, Aziraphale is in his office. Which looks a lot like a very small library, actually. But there's a comfy-looking couch against the one wall that doesn't have bookcases, and also a couple of comfy-looking chairs near the one occupied by the professor. There's no desk, but there is a table nearby, which holds Aziraphale's tea.

What, you expected an actual office-looking office?

She quite liked this new fangled white board, it wasn't dusty at all. So she could be sure that chalk wouldn't mar her smart black dress with the shiny brass buttons. Her freshly starched apron crackled as she turned to regard each student as they entered and took their seat. She was looking from student to student searchingly, as if she was trying to decide if she liked them or not. Students who passed near her would note she smelled faintly of newly made toast.

Finally she closed her eyes, inhaled deeply through her nose, and nodded.

They'll do. )

"After every one has introduced themselves, you may all go early."

Syllabus was finished... finally! Yondaime breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back into his chair looking out the window at the sky outside. Nothing much left to do until Friday now...

He pursed his lips and rested his hands behind his neck, maybe now was a good time to take a nap, or better yet read the Icha Icha Tactics that the Gama's had brought him.

[ooc: open for any and all who want to poke at Yondaime]

It's entirely possible that Daniel is looking a wee bit jetlagged at the front of the class and is clutching at a cup of coffee like it's a lifeline.

He smiles as the class files in, leaning against his desk. Once they're all seated, he begins.

"Good afternoon and welcome to World History in a Nutshell. I'm Dr. Jackson, and I'll be taking you through this whirlwind tour of the history of Earth. On your desks is a copy of the tentative syllabus

First of all today, I'd like to go around the room and have everyone do a quick introduction so I can put names to faces."

After that was done, Daniel dimmed the lights.

"We're going to start off with an easy class on prehistory today. I have a documentary, which is about human evolution.

Once that's finished, I'm happy to take any questions and then you can take the Caveman Challenge. I'll be interested to see what percentage you'll get at the end."

[[ooc: Crashing soon and thus will pick up tags when I awaken again. Will also be working from ~2.30- ~10.00 EST]]

Lorelai, of course, has a very large mug of coffee in her hands as her students file in. She smiles at them brightly and waits until they've all taken their seats before beginning to speak.

"Good afternoon!" she greets. "I'm Lorelai Gilmore-Danes. I realize that's a mouthful and I have no problem with any of you calling me Lorelai. If you're not comfortable with that I'll answer to Ms. Gilmore or Ms. Danes, but you definitely don't need to use the whole thing, okay?"

She put her mug down passed out papers to each student. "This is your syllabus. It's more of a guide than it is set in stone, so it may change after we talk today."

After passing out the papers, she sat on the edge of her desk and picked up her mug again. "Now, I'm guessing most of you are from other times and places. I'll best be able to help you if you tell me where and when you're from and what you want to learn from this class."

When Phale got pulled together to go teach his first class ever, Wilson also got up and went in to the school with him. Leaving Phale with a kiss and an assurance that he was going to be brilliant, Wilson headed on down the hallway to his own office.

Wilson also had a couch and a couple of comfortable armchairs set up in his office, along with a nice rug, leather desk chair and of course, a desk! Most importantly, he had the beloved coffee machine which in short order was pumping out the delicious scent of Jamaican Blue Mountain freshly ground and now perking.

Settling down behind his desk, he still had work to do on his lesson plans for the week and so set to it, he grinned as he took note of a familiar looking thermos sitting there as if it had always been there. Picking it up, he gave it a loving kiss, then set it down to enjoy in a bit. For now the door stood open for anyone who might need or want to wander by; one warning, the coffee mugs were not unlimited.

[ooc: Door is open and post is open for any and all, particularly TAs who might like to talk before the first classes! :)]

Thursday had finally managed to find a temporary babysitter. She would have to figure out a schedule or something, or call in Mrs Bradshaw as an absolute last resort.

So now she had an office. It had a door, a desk, a phone, a lamp and a chair. Oh, and one meagre bookshelf. She was definitely going to have to see to improving that.

Nevertheless, now she had time to read over the rest of her orientation package and finalise her class for the week.

The door was propped open in case anyone wanted to stop by.

As the students entered the class room, they were greated with the smell of breakfast tacos from Cafe Fina.

Because you can take El out of Mexico, but you can't take Mexico out of El.

"Buenos dias, mis estudiantes," El said once they had all arrived. "En Mexico, me llaman El Mariachi, pero tu me llamares "Professor"."

He stretched his neck.

"Or, in English. Good morning, my students. In Mexico, they call me El Mariachi, but you will call me Professor."

He walked around his desk and started handing out syllabi. "Get used to talking in Spanish," El said. "Because we'll be doing a lot of it. You learn another language by being immersed in it and that's what I intend to do to all of you. With this syllabus is a basic vocabulary sheet. I'd like you to start working on it immediately. Also, get yourself a good Spanish-to-English dictionary and a book entitled 501 Spanish Verbs. They should be available at the book store in town."

He stopped and turned to face the class. "Well, let's start with a little introduction, and then I'll let you all go early. Your name, where you are from, why you're taking this class, and something interesting about yourself. I'll start. I've already told you who I am. I'm taking this class because I'm the teacher. I'm from a small town in Mexico and I am an avid guitar player. Anyone else?
