Jenny was sitting in her office, innocently grading this week's classes, and ready to be interrupted by anyone. Because innocently grading this week's classes was boring.

Friday office hours are being held. Sentences are being passive.

Janet unlocked the door to the library, turned on the lights, and sat down behind the Collections Desk. She warily eyed the rather strange-looking romance novel with the centaur and the mermaid on the cover. It was just lying there on the corner of the desk.

There is a distinct lack of Twinkies at the front of the classroom today. Instead, there are Twinkies strategically placed around the room in areas that are open, visible and would be easy to expose a would be Twinkie thief.

"Professor Ted's still out and we're still talking about music of the Uncharted Territories today. It's almost had to have discussion on this type of music since we really don't know what's out there and what different sounds we might hear. It could be the same, it could be different, it could be damaging to our ears, it could be beyond our comprehension, and it could really stink."

Today's Assignment: Keeping with our last assignment about describing ourselves to natives who don't know us or our music, today's assignment is to tell the class what musicians or pieces of music do you think natives that have never been exposed to your music before would react best towards? What about the musicians or pieces of music that would garner the most negative reactions?"

"Also, if you haven't already, please turn in your homework from last class period."

"And if any of you happen to see the Twinkie stealer, let me know."

"Hello. In lieu of a lecture, I'm following current trends and showing a movie today. I want a one page summary on Wednesday. No talking. Once the movie is finished, you can leave."

Movie Friday. Cheesy poofs, soda, and coffee she selfishly hoardes unless you sweet talk her all accompany the movie that pertains to trust. The starfish might sound familiar.

Amazingly, the announcements occur at the end of third period today. Dewey woke up before noon. Amazing!

"Hey, so, like, no one volunteered to be my student director. That makes me sad, kiddos. I'm gonna need help, and somebody better step forward, or else I might have to volunteer some people. I will. Don't tempt me.

So, anyways, the real reason for the annouce-a-ments today is to announce that Nadia Santos won the detention lottery. So, you get to spend Saturday with Professor Dream. Congratulations, you have really sucky luck.

That's all for today. I'm a gonna go take a nap. It's waaaaay too early."

Rita smiled widely at the class as they filed in.

No, not a nice smile. It was anyone's guess as to why she was so pleased.

"Good morning, boys and girls. Today we're going to do something a little different - namely, conduct interviews. You're each going to be given a list of questions to ask your interviewee, and I expect to receive detailed answers."

She began to pass out the questions. "Naturally, if you're uncomfortable, your grade will not suffer for not answering the questions. They get progressively more...inquisitive, so please, just answer up to your comfort level. This is an exercise in learning our boundaries, after all."

She finished passing them out, and with a flick of her wand, names appeared in the air.

Krycek, Alex - Barbossa
Trebond, Alanna - Callistie
Fraiser, Janet - Sullivan, Chloe
Thrace, Kara - Mars, Veronica
Echolls, Logan - ...?

"Oh dear. Mr. Echolls, it seems you're partnerless. Oh, well. You'll be working with me, in that case," Rita said, full of sympathy. Probably.

[ooc: Okay, here's the deal: I know these questions might be problematic for some characters. Trust me, I get that. So honestly, if you don't think your character would be comfortable answering them all, just have them stop where they're comforable, or skip to the ones that they don't mind answering. That's absolutely fine. And likewise, if you have any questions about the exercise, please feel free to email me at ms.rita.skeeter@gmail.com.]

[OCD threads are a-comin' up. And I'll add it in here, since I forgot - slowplay is absolutely fine, since I know a few of you have limited access. :)]

Josh was staring at a party invitation in confusion when the government class came in.

President: Chief Executive, Commander-in-Chief )

He sat down. "Today's question: you're the President and just dying to issue an executive order. What do you declare?"
[identity profile] professor-lyman.livejournal.com
Josh had his feet up on his desk when the Student Council came into the classroom.

"Okay. We're a go for the Valentine's Day dance next Friday. We need to work out logistics: what time, who's doing publicity, who's doing music, who that's not me who will be putting up the dance entry, all that good stuff." He pointed at Callisto. "As our benevolent Dictator-in-Chief, do you want to either head this up or appoint staffers to do the work for you?"

He looked down at list of notes he had taken last meeting. "Okay. I also need you all to give me a final yes or no on a Spring Break trip to be held from March 3-8, heading to England and Calais, so I can take it to people who are actually in charge around here and get approval for the idea."

He smiled at Isabel. "I saw the posters up for the Game Night. Good job. As Student Council reps, it'd be a good--I'd say almost compulsory--idea to at least swing by the Game Night at some point during the evening."

He waved his hand lazily. "Anything else?"

[OOC: As always, slowplay is our friend to coordinate the timezones of thirteen different characters...]

"Good afternoon," Rita said, twirling her wand idly. "We're going to be doing a rather fun project this week."

She pointed to her desk, where there were five rather expensive-looking cameras lined up. "You each will be taking one of these. By the next time we meet? I want you to have photographed something interesting, and bring it in. I'll develop the film for you - because yes, these cameras are not digital. They're enchanted, as a matter of fact. And you'll do well to take care of them over the course of the next few days, thank you."

"Questions?"

[ooc: Quick note - I'd just like a link to the thread where your character observed whatever it is they're photographing when you turn it in, okay? Just so we don't have something getting photographed that can't possibly have been caught on film.]

As class starts, Camulus writes a single word on the board, 'CEILIDH'. He taps it once. "Pronounced 'kaylee' like the mechanic. In the original Gaidhlig it meant 'a visit'. In the more pretentious English publications, a ceilidh is 'an evening of Celtic entertainment'. A ceilidh is a kitchen party, nothing more and nothing less, rarely planned or organised. One seems to have happened to me. I hope to see some of you there tonight.

"Now, today's lesson. I asked you to read the story of Conaire Mor, or the Destruction of Da Derga's Hostel. We're focussing on the concept of geise, or gessa, or geis, however you want to pronounce, spell, or pluralise it. Bonds of behaviour that could be laid by anyone, but especially by women. They were almost a forerunner of the codes of chivalry that would spring up around legends of Arthur and the medieval courts. You've already seen an example of geise in the story of the exile of the sons of Uisliu that Phoebe introduced you to. Deirdre placed Noisu under geise to take her away from Conchobhar, and he couldn't refuse her.

"In this story, we see Conaire's geise clustering close upon him, harbingers of doom whenever he breaks one. Geise are usually placed on a child and heroes at birth and they can manage to keep all of them until one crucial moment, the moment of his downfall. Geise afflict all of the Celtic heroes, but are usually benign injuctions, such as never refusing food that is set before them. Geise even appear in modern fairytales, such as the Colony of Cats which is the mun's favourite fairytale of all time and any fairytales that involve restrictions on behaviour - "You must leave before the first stroke of midnight," and so on.

"Questions? Other examples you can think of? It's Friday morning, you don't want to be here, say something and I'll let you go."

Dinosaur-shaped cookies sit on the table next to the sign-in sheet, as well as a pitcher of milk and some glasses (because cookies need to be dunked!).

"I hope you all... enjoyed... the video last week," Tommy says. "Today? I want you guys to talk about what sort of prior experience you have with vehicles. They don't have to be cars. Giant robots, starfighters, boats ships... talk about them and if you think any of your experiences will translate well to automobiles."

Each student has a microscope, dissection tools (as listed in handouts) and a selection of lilies, daffodils, or tulips to dissect as needed.

Have at.
