If one were to recognize the variety of different devices set before everyone in the classroom today, then they would know pretty immediately what today's lesson was. But should the contraptions still look unfamiliar or perhaps even vaguely threatening, fear not, for Ignis was not going to be wasting any time in getting to explaining, because the sooner he covered the basics, the sooner they could get to experimenting with, hopefully, some new and exciting recipehs.

"Blenders and food processors," he said, "are convenient devices to have in any kitchen, especially for the purposes of....well, blending and processing food. The former is more intended for creating a smoother, more liquid product, while the latter allows for a greater range of textures and consistency. Ultimately, however, you are pureeing, emulsifying, chopping, crushing," his hand waved in the air a little, "et cetera, et cetera. They can be used for creating all sorts of things, from smoothies and causes, to nut butter or finely chopped ingredients, even soups or for kneading dough.

"We will, of course," he continued, "take some time to go over how to use both of these devices, and, once we've got that out of the way, we'll have plenty of time to practice using them and trying some things. If creativity is not your strong suit today, I do have some simple recipehs for you to try, but I do encourage you to try and see what you might be able to come up with through a bit of trial and error."

There was a pause.

"All I ask is that only edible things go into them."

Another pause lingered a little longer with a Very Serious Face, so that they all knew how much he meant that. This was Modern Kitchen Basics, after all, not an episode of Will It Blend?.

Then, he nodded. "But first...we must know how to use the thing if we are to use the thing..."

"Right. Time for a tourist trap today!" Lana declared. "We should at least get coffee with our culture today. We're headed to Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington. So, it's the same country we're technically in, but clear at the other side of the continent. Generally rainy in winter, though it's not supposed to be today. I've got ponchos if you want one." She patted her bag.

"There are a lot of stores and restaurants; there's at least one art gallery," you knew who you were, artists, "and one of the market's claims to fame is as the birthplace of Starbucks, though there are also a lot of other bakeries, cafes, and such." She was looking forward to it.

"They also have a lot of local craftspeople, with varied offerings. It should be quite interesting."

The portal opened, and she ushered them through. "We've got three hours and twelve minutes," don't ask, the gnomes were being weird, "and then I'll see you back here!"

Isabela was nowhere to be seen this afternoon, and Aphra swept into the classroom fashionably late.

"Wouldn't you know, something super important just came up," she said with a wave of her hand to indicate just how very important this totally not made up thing was. "So I guess we'll just have to reschedule class. Later!"

And with that she swept out again.
