Well, the heat had been fixed. Sort of.

The good news: the library was no longer a frigid wasteland. The bad news: it was now a sweltering mess instead. It seemed like the heat had been turned all the way up and then broken off. Even having the windows open wasn't doing a damn thing to cool the library off.

Of course, Arden had dressed preparing for another week in Antarctica, not a sauna, so she'd come in wearing a thermal shirt, a sweater, a fleece, and a thick winter jacket. Which was why she she could be found in just her bra and her jeans behind the desk today. Because she wasn't going to get heat stroke just so nobody would get the vapors with her wearing something that covered more than her usual bikini top.

Thank the goddess she was wearing a cute bra today. It was the little things, okay?

Today, class was meeting at Portalocity, Jon nodding at each student as they arrived. "I hope to do as much as possible within Fandom, but I wasn't able to arrange something yet because my mun spent all day in the ER yesterday, so we're going to Baltimore today. We'll be volunteering at the Baltimore Humane Society."

He passed out a list of opportunities. "We'll be coordinating with their long-term volunteers when we arrive, so please choose what you would like to do, and we'll find who's in charge. As you can see, there are a lot of possibilities."

Jon would be socializing cats. Contain your surprise.

"All too many animals have no place of their own, and we owe it to them to do as well as we can by them. And if you would like to adopt one, I'm sure they would love to hear from you. Or you can visit the center on the island and talk to Prompto."

The tent was back up for class! And it was still winter. Because sometimes the aesthetic seemed to supersede the whole comfort thing. But, hey, at least the little, flimsy ovens would be on to keep people sort of warm for this next week.

"It's bread week! But don't worry, we haven't forgotten about the showstopper cakes from last week that you all were supposed to bring in," Tony said. "But that will be judged as you settle in to show us what you think your signature focaccia is."

"Mm, more cake," Steve said, grinning. "And bread!" A combination only a super-powered metabolism could love.

"And, once we judge that focaccia, your technical challenge will be to make a traditional French baguette." It wouldn't end in tears at all. Tony was just so irrationally hopeful. And the level of time travel necessary for all this baking...

"Plus your own butter," Steve added helpfully.

"Yes, a flavored butter," Tony agreed. "But we'll be nice and let you do that one however you want."

"As long as that way isn't taking butter that's already made out of the fridge," Steve cautioned.

“Good morning,” Cutter began that week’s class, holding his usual morning cup of coffee, “this week we’re going to be looking at the fossil record,” he said, “the fossil record is the history of life as documented by fossils, the remains of imprints of organisms from earlier geological periods preserved in sedimentary rock, In a few cases the original substance of the hard parts of the organism is preserved, but more often the original components have been replaced by minerals, deposited from water seeping through rock. Occasionally the original material is simply removed while nothing is deposited in its place; in this case, all that remains is a mould of the shape of the plant or animal,” he explained and smiled over at Connor for him to continue the lecture.

"Key things that we can gain from the fossil record include the following” Connor said with a nod to Cutter before glancing down at the papers in his hands and then continuing. “Evidence for evolution: fossils demonstrate how organisms changed and adapted over millions of years, providing strong evidence for the theory of evolution. Understanding past environments: analyzing the types of fossils found in a particular rock layer, scientists can reconstruct the climate and ecosystem that existed at that time. Extinction events: The fossil record reveals past mass extinction events, which can help us understand the potential impacts of current environmental changes. Human origins: Fossil evidence of early human ancestors helps us understand our evolutionary history and can help us better understand where we are today.”

“For the rest of the class I’d like you work on a Geologic Mapping activity from the moddable materials provided,” Cutter finished, “and as always myself and Mr. Temple will be around to answer any questions that you may have,”
