Prior to class starting, Ignis had absolutely ensured that the fire alarms in the kitchen classroom were, in fact, fully functioning and operational.

That said, he waited at the front of the classroom until the alarm set on his phone went off to inform him of the start of the period, which he dutifully turned off and put his phone away and focused his attention on the students he assumed were gathered and waiting.

"Well, then," he said, and anyone not there on time would just have to catch up when their tardy selves finally made it, "good morning, and welcome to Modern Kitchen Basics. This is, of course, a beginner's introductory course to understanding and getting to know the elements of the modern kitchen to either start you on your cooking journey or to refine it. Hopefully, with each week, your comfort and knowledge around a kitchen will grow and you'll be able to confidently navigate your way around, if not a whole meal, than at least the kitchen in general.

"And as is customary for a new semester, especially the first class on the very first day, and for an overview class where knowing where the students are coming from is particularly helpful in guiding the lessons to their most effective approach, today we will be focusing on introductions, both of ourselves and with the very cornerstone of the modern kitchen, the oven and stove. But let's not get ahead of ourselves with the latter yet. Let's take some time to get to know each other first, and then we'll get to know our most prevalent piece of equipment. We're a relatively small class, so I imagine we'll also have time to execute a simple and basic function of said equipment to get you started before the class is over, as well. So, barring any initial questions, allow me to begin."

"Welcome, everybody." Lana smiled as she met them at Portalocity. "Welcome back, most of you. The last few terms, we've been visiting a lot of natural wonders and cities around Earth, so now I thought we'd visit some of what the people of Earth think is noteworthy. We'll be seeing museums, local attractions, and similar things. Today we'll be starting close to home, in Baltimore, which is the city just across the causeway."

She waved them all through the portal, where they'd see a rather...interesting...building. "Welcome to the American Visionary Art Museum. A lot of the art we'll see will probably be from those who have trained to be artists, but this museum is dedicated to those who are self-taught. It also has a strong bent towards community and social justice.

"Currently there are a number of exhibitions, including one about sports and sportsmanship, one about the unjust treatment of various groups of people and the dream of a planet at peace, and one about the liberation of the self." She'd probably be going to that last one. Good luck at that peace thing (it was probably a lie).

She handed out tickets. "Enjoy yourselves, and meet back here when you're done. Try not to get lost in the gift shop."

At the front of the classroom was a pirate and also a rogue archaeologist who you could be forgiven for thinking was a space pirate.

"Welcome to Habits of Highly Efficient People, sweet things," Isabela greeted them. "I am Captain Isabela and this is my college Doctor Aphra."

"The thing a lot of people get wrong about efficiency is that they mistake it for productivity," Aphra said. "They assume that if they maximise efficiency then they'll have their wage slaves working at maximum effort for maximum productivity, forever, which is a bunch of bantha poodoo. Not even droids can do that, and I've known some highly efficient droids." She would not be elaborating on what those droids where highly efficient at. No need
to bring the mood down.

"The real key to being efficient is learning the ways to use your effort effectively," Isabela explained. "Maximum result for minimum effort, and then you've got the rest of your time to focus on the actually important things. For example, today we'll be doing introductions, both because of tradition, but also because it allows us to effectively fill out a class period without having to come up with some ridiculously complex task for you to complete."

Was this actually a class on how to be a highly effective slacker? The world would never know.

(It totally was.)
