wrongkindofsith: (~ Pony with the wings up)

Well. Your teachers were currently ponies. That was a thing that was happening.

Because this place. This place.

"So, a movie day," Jane the pony ventured.

"A movie day," Cara the exceptionally grump pony agreed, glaring at the projector like it'd offended her personally.

"We promise things will be back on track next week." Well. "Island willing?"

Jane was doing her best here!

"If not, we're all going to be missing our thumbs." After several minutes of wrestling with the projector, Cara managed to get the movie started.

Class that day was being set up on an equestrian ranch, because Rosa Diaz thought she was hilarious.

And, let's face it, this was going to be a much more interesting set up than what she'd originally hand planned, which involved a missing groundhog and what they were all going to do about it. Honestly, she still felt that was a good one (and topical) but this one? Was much better. (And also topical!)

So there she was, standing in front of one of the stables, rocking a black cowboy hat and some leather chaps because when hot and in Rome.... and she gestured toward the open gate behind her.

"So we've been called down here to this horse stable," she said, "because in the middle of the night, someone broke the lock on the gates and opened up all the stalls and either let every single horse loose or stole them, we're not really sure, especially since there's a trail of horse hooves leading that way," she pointed out the hoof-prints in the dusty trail and followed it to the valley beyond, "toward the gorge, which could be trouble, because gorges and horses aren't a great mix. However, there's also trailer tracks," and now she pointed out those as well, and followed them in the opposite direction, "leading down the highway that the owner of this here fine horse establishment insists don't belong to any ve-hicle," yeah, she did have to say it like that, she was doing a whole bit, can't you tell?, "she owns.

"So," she concluded, "what happened? How can we start figuring out this mystery? So far, we've worked on interrogating witnesses and searching for clues, but what else can we do to help point us in the right direction? Maybe the key here is to just get into the mind of our victims. Try to think like a horse. Try to imagine what it might be like to be a horse."

And now she smirked, openly and unapologetically.

"I'm sure some of you know what that might be like, huh?"

Why, yes, this whole set-up was to poke fun at the people who turned into horses yesterday.

Sure, she had been one herself, but you know what? She owned that shit.

"Let's get started, yeah? Giddy-up, cowboys. Yee-haw."

"Today we're going to continue our exploration of the wonderful world of American breakfast with some of your sweeter breakfast options," Raiden said, "although you can also make all of these in a savory format. They're flexible! We're going to talk about pancakes, French toast, and waffles. People have very strong opinions on which one of these is the best. Gray. My brother Gray is people." It was a miracle he was asleep or he would be right here preaching the superiority of the waffle. "But to me, they're all delicious, and there's no wrong option!

"Now, for pancakes or French toast, if you're just cooking for yourself or maybe two people, you can use a skillet. For more than that a griddle is going to be helpful, or you might consider doing a French toast casserole or sheet pan pancakes so you're not standing over the stove flipping all morning while everybody else eats. For waffles you need a waffle iron; there's no getting around it. But once you have one, the world is your waffle-y oyster. To make French toast, you dip bread in a custard made of eggs and some kind of milk; for pancakes and waffles you make a batter. This makes them a little more customizable, right, because you can add more stuff directly to the batter, like berries or nuts or chocolate chips..." He was getting hungry. "Or you can change it up and make, say, pumpkin pancakes or even whole wheat waffles!" Raiden handed out a packet of recipes so the students could pick the one they wanted to try. "If you're tackling pancakes for the first time, knowing when to flip them does take a little bit of practice: the trick is to look for the bubbles to form on the top of the batter. And remember, if one of them ends up messed up that's okay! The only thing that matters is that it tastes good.

"So, you've got several recipes to choose from including some not linked in this post if you want, plus a variety of mix-ins or toppings. Where to go from here is up to you, although I do want to encourage you to go for the real maple syrup. The fake stuff just can't compare. And remember, if you need help or have a question, that's what I'm here for. I'll be up here making waffles to freeze for my little brother." Because it never hurt to try to get ahead of Gray on that front.

NEVER YOU MIND what Beaker had done to avoid having Sam at class today! Had he told him about a secret and exclusive meeting with Punxsutawney Phil? Had he sent him on a patriotic hot air balloon ride very, very far away? Had he lied about a special meet and greet with Captain America?

The world may never know!

The point was that Beaker was alone, standing atop a seven foot tall model of a volcano, and holding what could only be considered an excessively large bottle of vinegar.

C'mon kids, it's a classic! Let's make a volcano! Surely nothing with go wrong!
