died8yearsago: (defiant over shoulder)

Since this was decidedly the one day in December when Amaya absolutely refused to leave her apartment, class was running with a solo teacher that day, because Rosa was of the mindset that if that mistletoe wanted to actually try any of that stuff with her, good luck to it, and it better be with someone hot, dammit.

(Which, you know, you've seen the people on this island, so.)

But, either way, while Rosa was in charge, the usual Ren Faire-inspired training grounds was replaced with some sort of abandoned warehouse set-up, and the weapons waiting to be learned about were thoroughly modern and, really, a favorite solution to any mistletoe problem.

"Hey, guys," she greeted with a lift of her chin, "Blackstone couldn't make it in because she's still afraid of cooties even at her age, which means I get to pick the weapon, and today's weapon is going to be flamethrowers. Because they're awesome. And I'm not a huge nerd like Blackstone is, so if you want to know about the history and the making of a good flamethrower, you can just google it, today, we're just focusing on using them. So let's stop wasting time and get right into it."

"Well, at least the mistletoe is thematic," Steve said, staring up at the piece as it attempted to herd him closer to Tony. "It was used during medieval times."

"There was a tradition that, for each kiss, you'd pluck one of the berries and smash it until none were left and no more kisses could be done under the mistletoe," Tony said serenely, causing the plant to momentarily cringe away from the threat.

"Oh, I like that," Steve said happily. "Neutralizing the threat." He gave Tony a quick grin. "Not that I ever mind kissing you."

Tony grinned back at him. "But the tradition is even older, some speculating that it's linked to the Romans and Saturnalia celebrations. Which were a large influence on art and philosophy of the Renaissance."

Bringing it back around!

"Nicely done," Steve said with an earnest smile. "So let's oh so handwavily explore the holiday traditions of the Renaissance today."

"We'll keep the mistletoe off you for it," Tony promised.

When Jo got to the library that morning she noticed there seemed to be some mistletoe around but nothing seemed to be happening as she went about her normal morning tasks. She still kept looking up at the mistletoe, expecting it to do something but it stayed quiet.

When nothing happened with the mistletoe she settled at the computer desk to work on a letter to write home to Deirdre since it had been a while since she had last written to her.
