It was looking like the forecast called for it to be pretty rainy and even a little stormy today, which, if you asked Gladio, would be a great challenge for his camping class. However, it was the last class, and he'd been in a pretty good and generous mood lately, so, instead, he decided to work out something a little different, and instead of meeting at the preserve that day, he was going to have everyone meet at Portalocity.

News that he was sure all of his students would have received with a sigh of relief.

"Alright, guys," he greeted them with a nod, and gestured toward the packs still waiting for them, because they weren't getting off that easy, "for our last meeting together, we're going to change the scenery up a little and head up to Voyageurs National Park, which promotes a variety of campsite options, all with waterfront access. So...very scenic, very beginner-friendly, very good spot to just sort of offer some of the best camping has to offer. We're going to keep it real simple today, and just hike up to a good spot, set up camp, and enjoy some nature, enjoy some company, and, of course, some s'mores and hot dogs. We got a boat out there, too, if anyone wants to enjoy the water while we're there, as well."

Or even fishing, so long as you don't drag Gladio with you.

"Grab a pack, and let's go camping!"

For our final class of the first session," said Summer, but don't you all worry! They'll be back next time! Hopefully. If no truly concerned citizens or mooses intervened, "we're going to focus on some nice, refreshing beverages."

She gestured helpfully toward the line of pitchers set before her.

"How refreshing, you may ask? 7-Up and Milk refreshing!"

“That doesn’t sound refreshing,” Stark said mildly. “It doesn’t look it either.”

"And," said Summer, "if you didn't think a lemon-lime soda in milk was bad enough, just you wait, because we've got a recipe that adds it to tomato juice with what's called a Sparkling Red Rouser, intended to rouse your appetite!"

"Or you could just stick with some hot buttered lemonade. Now there's some words you're not used to hearing all together!"

“Couldn’t we have done something rainbow colored and harmless, for the weekend?” Stark asked plaintively. “Or perhaps or not harmless but maybe less…buttered lemonade?”

"Absolutely not." Stark, you already knew that answer. And to think, you could have done whatever you wanted and let Summer skip this class, but noooo. "Let's grab some glasses and drink up, everyone."

“I would have thought,” Stark said dryly, “you might be wary of drinking odd things right now. At least none of them have mayonnaise in them?”

"Yet."

On that very ominous note Stark just sighed and waved a hand at the drinks. “I suppose we all ought to get on with it then.”

"Right, um. So...thank you for showing up," Jon began. "I hope this class has been...educational."

He doubted it, but he hoped.

"This weekend is Pride in Fandom, so I thought...well, it's wrong to speculate on people's sexual and gender identities. It's up to them if they want to...to come out, or anything. But I thought we could discuss other things about the people who are awful to those who do support Pride. Which might go back to, um. That awful man that died a few weeks ago. Or to the fact that so many who declaim that gay or trans people are bad, are projecting their own depravities. So, um. Discuss, I suppose."

"Have you ever been flung through space like a pebble from a slingshot?" Atton asked cheerfully. "If you have, congrats, you get to do it again. If you don't, enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience without the risk of actually dying horribly."

He stepped aside, waving at the consoles. "You all get to fly a very fast, very shiny ship," he said, "Past two planets, a sun, and then three more planets. Propulsion isn't enough, so you're going to have to make good use of gravity. And because I'm a cool guy like that, I've programmed the sims to at least let you know when you're at the right angle to use each planet's gravitational pull correctly."

He grinned.

"Still," he said, "Have tons of fun crashing. It's a learning experience!"

It was the last class of the first summer session and Jo was looking forward to the break before the second session.

In the meantime she had received a letter from Deirdre, it had been a while since she had heard from her friend so once she finished reshelving the books that had to be put away that day, she settled down at the front desk so that she could read her latest letter.
