"So!" Summer greeted the class with clap of her hands and a small sigh as she looked over the room. "This class has been kind of a hot mess, huh? I mean, I'm sure you've all learned at least something, but I'm also pretty sure that it wasn't even remotely math. But what the important thing is...is that hopefully the moose learned something, and it'll be a while before he foists a math class on someone who will go on to foist it onto someone who couldn't even be bothered to math enough to get the right amount of substitute teachers while she was gone...

"But I'm back now, and I have no idea how things have gone in the meantime, so today, we're having a pop quiz just to get a read on where you should be compared to where you actually are. Obviously, this isn't going to count toward a final grade or anything like that. It's just sort of to give me an idea of how fucked we are for the rest of the semester...

"Which," Summer added more brightly, "if you do the math, is only two more weeks, so there's at least that!"

And, with that, she started to hand out the tests.

Somehow (probably with the help of magic), the teachers managed to get the Danger Shop to look like your average airport.

Round of applause for that!

"So, planes might be a far faster option than walking or riding a horse or taking a boat," Jaskier began.

"However," Yennefer said, "they have nothing on simply using a portal to get to your destination--which, yes, is an option available to all on our island, but it turns out is not available to the rest of the populace. Instead they get to get crammed into an enclosed metal tube with several hundred strangers for hours on end. Who thought this up?" she demanded of the universe. It sounded like hell.

"Boats," Jaskier repeated with a little shudder. "Still far worse. But this line to board the plane seems awful as well."

Aww, they were new to the TSA.

"You have to take your--why should I have to take my shoes off? In public? So people can see my feet? That's completely improper," complained the woman who hosted magic orgies in her free time.

Jaskier's expression said that he knew if a reason people would want to see that. "Either way, here is one thing that isn't better here. Do you all have something that isn't as good as back home?"

"You might also find the fashion lacking, for instance," Yennefer said to kick off conversation. "And the pollution is deeply unfortunate. But to each their own, so. What is lacking in this world?"

“Welcome back,” Goose said once everyone was there and had settled down, “so this will be our final week of actual classes, next week we’ll be going on a field trip to the Longshot Research Facility in my home world, it’s where a lot of our main science and engineering projects are done,” hopefully this visit wouldn’t coincide with space mobsters trying to break into the facility again but he didn’t voice any of this to his students.

Goose also realised that this would mean that the week after would be exam week and he remembered what exam week had been like when he was a student at this time, the odds of him actually being able to give an exam were very slim.

“I thought for this week we will use this as a review lesson and cover everything that we’ve talked about these past several weeks and if there’s any topics in particular you’d like for me to go over in more detail,” he explained and then started to go through the different topics that they had covered over the semester.
