“Last week’s movie was meant to be about becoming a hero,” Stark said once the students who were going to arrive were there. “And then we were going to discuss where heroes come from. Instead we had the little furry blue monster who’s a hero. So we’re back to what we would have discussed without that happening, this week. With the movie. Well, parts of movies.”

Stark wasn’t sure how many movie days he could get away with without an angry moose having Opinions on the matter. He hoped it was at least one more.

“So. Superheroes. They have to come from somewhere.”

What followed were clips of Ratguy’s origin story, which for some reason kept getting filmed over and over. Along with why can’t I remember the meta forSpider-Man’s which also seemed to have been redone several times. And then Really Strong Guy Who Can Fly who fell to Earth rather a lot. There were other heroes in the clips as well who didn’t repeat themselves.

“So. Some heroes, at least the fictional ones, are born with powers. Some just have a lot of resources. Some have powers given to them or forced on them. If you have powers, where did they come from? If you have heroes in your world, where did their powers come from? I’m not a hero but I...I’ve always been like this.” Stark reached up and tapped his mask gently. “Attuned to the dying.”

The tavern wasn't the relaxing atmosphere that it was last week, no. Instead it was back to normal. Or normal adjacent.

With a crowd.

"This week we shall discuss the very important topic of knowing the audience that you're playing for so you don't get run out of town."

"Since murderous mobs tend to be bad for your health," Cara added dryly.

Jaskier nodded a bit too frantically for that to have just been a hypothetical scenario for him. "So! First is to know the class of people you are singing for. Then the current political climate."

"For example, sex and violence are usually crowd pleasers, but sometimes the people in charge a real killjoys. Literally."

"The current level of inebriation also factors in," Jaskier added with a more thoughtful nod.

Cara smirked. "Better hope they're not mean drunks."

Well. It was a good thing that today's class was already planned to be mostly Gladio's thing, because he seemed to be the only one of the three teachers that seemed to have any kind of presence of mind for the lesson that morning. Ignis looked like he was attempting to find the secret of the universe at the bottom of a coffee mug, and Prompto had almost tried to bail out entirely before he was reminded that they were a team, they did this together, and it wasn't good for him to just mope around all day, anyway. Which just meant that, as soon as they got into the Danger Shop and the first chocobo popped up, he was on it like a bridle, clinging for some much needed chocobo snuggles.

And Gladio sighed and shook his head, and turned his attention fully toward the students, as he lifted an absurdly large sword up and rested it over his shoulders.

"Last week," he said, "we covered firearms, which are Prompto's speciality, and this week, we're covering swords, which is mine. Now, I'm not expecting you all to be able to weild a bad boy like this one, but I do want you all to give one of the variety of swords that this danger shop thing can generate a try. Pick one that you feel suits you, and we'll go from there. I'm going to go over a few sword techniques with all of you, and then I want you to give them a try. You can practice against a practice dummy, buddy up and spar with each other, since this is the danger shop and we don't have to worry about anyone accidentally losing a limb or nothing, or, if you really want a challenge, you can go ahead and challenge me." He grinned at them. "But I'm gonna warn you, I won't go easy.

"And if you feel you've got a hang on the sword stuff, already," he added, "I'd like to work with you on adding a shield into the mix, too. It adds a different element, and it helps if you've got the sword technique down first before you add in the shield, and if you're new to it, I don't want you to feel too overwhelmed. But obviously, a shield is going to be a great addition to your defenses if you're fighting with swords.

"Go ahead and take some time to figure out what sword you want to use; we can all help you find one that works for you, and then we'll get started on going through the techniques, and we'll go from there.

"And, as always..." He grinned over at one as it nudged its beak against his shoulders, "mind the chocobos."

Today class was set up in the Danger Shop and smelled pretty amazing if you were a fan of turkey and pie. "Next week is Thanksgiving," Steve said, smiling, "which means this week's team building exercise is doing prep work."

Ignore whatever Tony was working with, please. Because it wasn't really Thanksgiving without someone nearly setting something on fire.

"Which means cooking!" Tony called over as he watched oil heat up.

Oh no.

Steve gave the turkey waiting over by Tony's deep-fry turkey rig a skeptical look. "You've got a fire extinguisher?"

Or Dum-E did?

"Of course I do. Just, get them started on the potatoes and stuffing," Tony suggested, putting on a welding mask for it.

Steve watched him for a beat longer before turning to the class. "Right. We need people to peel potatoes, cut up bread, and chop veggies. Pick what you're good at and we'll switch in ten minutes."

Or you could watch Tony Stark over-engineer a turkey.

There were a lot of books needing to be returned for today’s shift and Jo had thought she’d familiarised herself last week with where everything was but it felt everything had switched around and genres weren’t where they were supposed to be, which she had been told could happen but it was taking her a while to find the fantasy books had moved to so while she was attempting to resolve this she was taking the time to read the backs of the books to see what some of the newer books were.
