"Hey, guys," Summer, with a pass of a hand at the side of her head because she was pretty sure there was another spider there, or it was her imagination, but she was pretty sure it was the former, because ohmygod, what the fuck, spiders? "Soooo, I'm Summer, as some of you know, and I'm going to be your sub today because your regular teacher is apparently off 'doing Death God stuff,'" yes, those were finger quotes, as well as an eyeroll, "which I'd totally think was a made-up excuse if this information didn't come down the pipeline to me from what I consider an actually reputable source. And I mean, it is almost Halloween, so maybe it's just a really busy time of year for them? I don't know, I'm not a Death God. I'm just a substitute teacher for a class I know absolutely nothing about.

"But I did Google it, and I came across a few short articles, which I printed out copies for you guys and will pass around, about a Japanese director who apparently seems to really embody this whole 'art of negative space' concept in his work. Which is also perfect because if all these elements aren't the perfect excuse for a movie day, then I don't know what would be.

"Anyway, it was hard to pick just one of his movies, because they're all honestly jams, but this one seemed apropos not only because of Halloween but also, like, because, like, I'm only teaching this class right now because your usual teacher is off doing things in a spirit realm, and....you know what? It made sense in my head, it's a movie day, just enjoy, and forgive me for the lack of popcorn, but also thank me because I'm pretty sure any bowls of popcorn we tried for would end up being half bowls of spiders."

So, there were spiders. There were. a lot of them.

And that was A Thing.

Between that and the general air of anxiety for some strange reason, there was a movie set up. In the background, you could occasionally hear Magnus screaming, "WHY ARE THERE SO MANY RANCHOS?"

Cara sighed and started rolling up a newspaper. Enjoy the show. kids!

Steve rushed into the room, still in his Captain America uniform from the Avengers compound up in New York, and gave Tony an apologetic smile. "Hello, everyone," he said. "Sorry that I was running a little late."

The suit, at least, was very patriotic.

Tony smiled back at him and nodded before turning back to the class. "Alright, so this weekend is Halloween and next week is... election day for America. So, we felt something nice and easy would be best for this week's class." There was a pause before he added. "Also, there were spiders on the paperwork we had planned."

Steve shuddered. "So many spiders. So we'll talk about the power a good speech can have in keeping a government functional. There needs to be a two-way street between elected officials and the people who elected them. There needs to be truth, even if it's difficult truths."

"We have two videos for you," Tony said, eyeing something as it crawled over the desk. "First up is from the previous President of the United States. And another showcasing a time when political accountability was called out on a national scale."

"Watch how they deliver their speeches, their word choices," Steve said, "and figure out why it works."
