wrongkindofsith: (You will all die for this)

You were in for a treat today kids, as the class was combining the two best things, booze and boardgames. Of course the booze wasn't real, but details.

"It's time to play a board game that doesn't take five hours or cause you to flip a table," Magnus said. "So, not Monopoly or Catan."

Cara started flipping through her notes. And kept flipping. "Or any of these." It was a long list.

"Uno, Guess Who?--really?" He asked.

"Tino knows what he did," Cara muttered under her breath. "Here's one." A whole one game. Go team them.

"It's Operation. And some of the pieces are actually stuck in there." Magnus shuffled awkwardly. "We're not happy either."

"I mean we could've set it up some kind of sim, but apparently that's not allowed." It would be too 'traumatising' or something.

"And messy!" Magnus, no. "Did I tell you about the time I cleft a man in twain? Longways!"

"From the top or the bottom?" Because the boys in the class really needed that mental image.

"Top. But now I gotta try the other way." Your teachers, kids. Your teachers.

Bet you couldn't wait for that damaged board game now.

"Morning, everyone," Amaya greeted the students with a nod as the period began, "and welcome back. We'll be getting back to those mini-forges we created a couple week ago today, so I hope you're ready to get in some good ol' work, but it should be fun, because how can you not have fun when dealing with molten metals?

"Today, we'll be making metal biscuits, which I don't recommend actually eating, unless hard aluminium is something that's already a part of your normal diet." She won't judge. "You can see we've got ourselves a few buckets of old and empty aluminum soda cans here," she gave one such bucket a little kick to make the contents rattle slightly, "which we'll be melting down into our metal. So not only is it pretty neat, but it's also a good way to recycle. Go ahead and grab your foundries and I'll show you how we're doing this, and then you guys can just go at it. And remember, safety first, so please make sure you've got some heat resistant gloves while you're working and some goggles wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

Mini Metal Muffins! )

"We've got a little more time, so feel free to melt down some more cans and use a variety of the pans to try something else or try melting down what you've made this first time around and do a second pour with a purer metal. Don't forget to save a little time at the end to empty out the ashes in your foundry before you leave as well, and let me know if there's any questions, of course."

This week there were piles of bedding, as well as what looked like some extra furniture, in the classroom. "Your assignment," Vanessa announced, "should you choose to accept it, and you'd better because it's half your grade--no, not really. Maybe yes really--is to build a blanket fort."

What did that have to do with TV? Your teachers hadn't planned that far.

"But it actually is half your grade," Wade said. "Or is it? It is."

"Your fort will be graded based on coziness, how many people and laptops can fit in it, and, uh, fortiness. That's a word now," Vanessa declared. "Anyway. Get to work."

"We're going on a trip soon," Seivarden began.

Yes, we. You were going to get a proper, civilized chaperone, students, unless she got too distracted.

"So I thought a movie would be a good way to practice judging civilized and uncivilized behavior. We'll discuss your conclusions afterwards."

She did know that it was historical, but wasn't aware how out of date it was. At least there were no explosions that could distract some students.
