The students' usual teacher was conspicuously absent as the students came in, today. They might suspect that she was testing them in some way again. Perhaps there were hidden cameras!

Or perhaps their teacher had had to leave the island completely, and the moose was only just bullying her replacement down the hallway.

Much like his first day in his own class, Duke made his entrance at a stumble, having been shoved into class at antler point.

"You know, where I'm from, we eat moose steaks!" he shouted. From the hallway, the moose made about the sound you might expect from a creature that size. Duke shuddered faintly and turned to the class.

"Right. Hi. I'm Duke Crocker, normally the pirate class teacher. Your usual teacher has decided to skip town or something, and I guess I was the most badass bitch they could find to take over, so here I am."

He was pretty sure this was Rosa's revenge for the whole attempted hijacking of her heist, yes.

"Now, I have no idea what you might have covered in here other than stealing axes from teachers' classrooms, but having met the good detective, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that people skills were maybe not involved. Which is a shame. I don't care how badass you think you are, you're not going to make it very far without at least a minimum of networking."

He hopped up onto the desk to sit cross legged, looking over the students.

"Turning away temporarily from the dumpster fire in the House," Steve began dryly, "we're going to tell you a bit about the primary process, which will help to determine the Democratic opponent to the President for the election that takes place in 11 months."

He paused. "And if you think this process takes far too long, you're not alone."

"I've aged a decade since this administration began, so..." Tony muttered under his breath. "The primaries are where hopeful candidates present their policies and debate one another in the hopes of being chosen by their party to run against the opposing party."

You know. In a perfect world.

"I have to admit that I have lost track of how many people have attempted to run for the Democratic nomination at this point," Steve said, "but we're still up in the teens for numbers, though some frontrunners have--thankfully--begun outpacing the obvious Russian asset and the woman who believes in the power of crystals to heal you."

Not you, Pepper.

"Like the billionaire who thinks running our country like a business will somehow fix something," Tony added, getting a little eye twitch of frustration. "As someone who owns a large business, I can refute that one emphatically." Also a billionaire.

"Is he one of the four interchangeable white guys?" Steve asked, frowning. "Anyway. The primary schedule is decided by individual states. The caucus is different than a primary and seems to be a lot like square dancing. That one goes first--in Iowa, in case you were wondering this summer why everyone was so obsessed with the State Fair there."

Well, Presidential politics and the butter cow.

Tony made such a face at the mere mention of Iowa. "So, today let's do our own little primary. Each of you can present your ideas and then we can... have deep fried fair food."

Steve nodded. "Why you want to be President in fifteen seconds or less," he said. "And then your ideas on health care, education, and immigration. And election safety."
