Well, it wasn't Lucifer in the front of class today, it was an extremely tall, imposing blond man bleeding ever so slightly from his ears.

"I am Eric," he told them. "Lucy is detained today and asked me to fill in for him. I'm fairly certain he was being sarcastic, but I do so love spending time near teacup humans--"

He did not. "--plus I am a sheriff, so I have plenty of experience with law enforcement."

Kind of. If you squinted.

He sighed heavily, a clear affectation because he didn't breathe. "I have been told that killing a DJ who plays nothing but disco music--and not even the popular disco music, but really obscure shi--stuff--is 'illegal' and 'wrong' and a 'waste of life.'"

That was a lot of sarcastic air quotes, Eric. "I'm not that convinced. I think it saves my ears from horror and provides an excellent incentive to other DJs to play better music."

He waved in a disinterested way at the students. "So. Pair up, come up with a different punishment for the tone-deaf, horrifying DJ that isn't killing them or come up with a way for me to kill him and not get caught. Your choice. You have oh...a half hour. Go."

Tip had stumbled over a collection of old radio transcripts early in her shift today, and immediately ended up fascinated. She had no idea who most of the people being discussed were, but apparently the island had been invaded by zombies at least a couple of times. She wondered if that was where the band at Caritas had come from. The school janitor had apparently come from an invasion, after all.

She was kind of disappointed now that they hadn't picked up, say, a snow monster chef last year. . . .

Upon entering the Danger Shop, the students would find themselves in the middle of a cornfield. "Today we're going on...The Amazing Race! So pick your partners--I've already got mine," Vanessa said, looping her arm through Wade's elbow, "--and get ready to explore our exotic destination: Dubuque, Iowa*!"

Wait, what?

"We couldn't afford anything better because we spent all the budget on... nothing," Wade said. "There was no budget. This was a test. You all failed it."

"Also, we're doing this here in the Danger Shop instead of actually going to Iowa because A) who wants to actually go to Iowa? and B) Travelocity costs money. So enjoy your time in Iowa, and hurry to complete your tasks before you're last, and get eliminated and left in Dubuque." A beat. "Just kidding!"

"I'm not. I'll abandon your ass here," Wade added. "I'll find a way. So don't fuck this one up."

He waited a moment, looking around. "Oh, we didn't do production assistants this time. So, I guess I need to repeat that we're not legally allowed to do that. Which is bullshit. But at least we can swear."

"Also we can't actually leave you because this is a hologram." Vanessa sounded disappointed by this. "And you know what? Scratch that thing I said before about partners. You're doing this solo. Yeah, that's right, I'm changing the fake rules."

"Best Midwesterner wins!"

Nothing. They won nothing.

"Hello, students," Ghanima said as they gathered in the Danger Shop.  "Today, we're back in a slightly more familiar climate:  the prairie."

"Now hop to it!" Ghanima laughed, clapping her hands.  "There's chocolate waiting."

The class was in the Danger Shop today, which was made up like a workshop, with different tools and a lot of computer parts laid out on tables, carefully labeled. Really, it was an insane amount of stuff. Pretty much the reason for the Danger Shop was to go all out. And because she wasn't sure how many people would want to keep a computer they built, but the ones who did would have the ability to do it after this!

"Hey, guys," Kitty greeted them. "Last week I warned you you'd be building computers, so hopefully you've put some actual thought into what you want it to do. You're getting basic instructions in case you don't know what you're doing, and all the parts you might need are labeled with specs so it should help you know what you're getting into. If you need any help, absolutely ask, and I will tell you probably more than you ever needed to know."

Kitty was a nerd who didn't get to nerd enough.
