not_a_bird: (wait run that by me again?)

If anyone thought Sweet Dee would be anywhere but back in Philly and Paddy's Pub for St. Patrick's Day, then that person was clearly a dumbass. Because that was exactly where Sweet Dee had been that weekend and no where else would suffice. That in and of itself was fine, there was nothing wrong with that...

...but there might have been a slight hitch with the fact that she was still there come Monday and in absolutely no state to be teaching, anyway. She wasn't even in a state to be awake yet. It had been a great St. Patrick's Day. One for the ages. Her brother hadn't even inadertently started up a string of kidnappings and robberies as a misguided attempt to promote the bar this year!

Fast forward to a little bit shy of one o'clock in the afternoon, where Sweet Dee would be sitting at the bar of Paddy's Pub with a beer before it hit her like a pound of bricks. "Oh, shit, I had class today!"

"Class? What are you talking about, Dee? You don't have class. You're a goddamn degenerate, just like the rest of us. More so, than the rest of us, if we're being honest..."

"No, you numbnuts, like class. An actual class. That I teach?"

She stared incredulously at the confused, bewildered looks coming back at her through the haze of a hangover, and blinked. "You guys, I've been away in Maryland for the past three months because I got a job teaching at a school down there. Have you seriously not even noticed?"

They had not. And, in fact, they made it a point to mention how they thought they would have noticed a lack of bird around there.

Anyway, enjoy your free period, kids.

When the class filed in today, they caught Jack mid-harangue. Standing near Peebee in an obvious pose of annoyance, hands on hips, eyes narrowed and lips tight. "..can't believe you did that! Do you know how much trouble that'll cause? What the hell were you thinking?!" She looked over and saw the students and dropped it. "We'll deal with this after class. Go sit down."

Peebee had one hand on her hip and was visibly rolling her eyes throughout the entire lecture. "It was a perfectly innocent experiment. Purely in the name of science. So everything in that room turned out to be super combustible? Great! Now we know that, don't we?"

She sketched an exaggerated bow, complete with one hand twirling in the air, and sauntered off to her seat looking completely unrepentant and in fact quite pleased with herself.

Jack still looked annoyed when she took roll. "Alright, so. Today's class is going to be about how not to get caught." She threw a hard glance at Peebee. "Because that's generally a bad life choice. Plus, it's sloppy. Don't be sloppy if you can help it."

The class was interrupted by a bunch of armored Troopers filing in. Jack looked up and frowned. "The he..ck do you guys want?"

Liam looked around the classroom, his expression grim. His gaze lingered on Peebee just a smidgen longer than it did on any of the other students.

“I’m afraid you’re all going to have to come with me,” he said, signaling with one hand to the Troopers, who began to move throughout the classroom, standing next to each desk and holding out a pair of handcuffs expectantly.

"Are they under arrest?" Jack challenged.

"Not yet," Liam said evenly. "So long as everyone co-operates. I'm just bringing them in for questioning."

"Heh." Peebee glanced from Liam to Jack, then back to Liam. "Whoops?"

Jack gave Liam a hard look. "I'll go with until we can get an actual child advocate in the room." She gave Peebee a short glance at the word 'child' that hopefully conveyed 'for the love of all that is right in the universe do not tell the cop your actual age'. "Alright, class," Jack drawled sarcastically, "I guess today's a field trip instead."

Yeah, Liam's stern demeanor might have cracked a little bit had he found out that Peebee was roughly seven times his own age.

"Let's go." The Troopers were still holding out those cuffs; privately Liam hoped that at least some of the students would remember they shouldn't have to be cuffed if they weren't being arrested.

Tip was about midway through a thoroughly uneventful library shift when the landline phone on the circulation desk rang.

She'd never even realized the circulation desk had a landline phone before.

It was a robocall, she was 90% sure, unless some Fandom resident happened to speak in a stilted, staticky tone and tended to start talking mid-sentence when you answered. Which . . . wouldn't be the weirdest thing, but Tip was comfortable going with Occam's Razor on that one.

Also, she was reasonably certain they were speaking Korean.

A few minutes later, she heard another phone ringing, this one over by the old card catalog. And shortly after answering that one, she heard a phone off in the stacks. . . .

She probably could just ignore them, but it was kind of fun hunting for phones. And thanks to the Boov translation mole on the back of her neck, she was getting close to being able to understand Korean!

"Hello, students!" Brooke greeted the class. "Last week you made patterns for others to try, so I'm going to ask you to lay those out over here, and you all can come up and pick something you want to make in whatever material you want. And if you're starting to get tired of the materials you've picked, next week we're going shopping. So go all out today if that's your thing."

Or borrow other people's! Who cared, you were going shopping on someone else's dime soon!
