magnusrushesin: (it's like this)

The phrased 'Put the customer first and own your behavior!' was written on the board and both teachers were eyeing it like it had personally offended them somehow. Or were confused. It was possibly both.

"So, today we're gonna talk about optimizing your... I'm not actually sure what this means actually," Magnus said.

"It's about problem solving," Cara said with a completely undeserved confidence, because why not? These words could mean whatever they wanted them to mean!

"And not growing a weird clone body in the back of your store!" Oddly specific thing to add, Magnus.

You were getting A Look for that, Magnus. "Yes...that."

"Well, it's important." It was. Really. "So uh, we're gonna own our behavior and uh..."

He was so lost on this class.

"Solve our problems by punching them." It was what they did best. That was owning their behaviour.

"Ohhh. Okay, that makes sense," Magnus said even though so little about this class made sense. So, so little. "We got some punching bags this time so we don't destroy easels again."

If they wanted this class to make sense, they shouldn't have picked these two to teach it.

Today, Zack had, alas, asked the students to meet him in the danger shop. Today's animal demonstration was going to be no less fluffy or cuddly, nah, but there was a bit of a dearth on fully-grown versions of today's particular animal on the island, and so Zack was going to make do with that he had.

And what he had, apparently, was a simulation of a ranch, populated by large, yellow birds.

"Hey, guys," Zack said, grinning and waving to the students from where he had settled, sitting on the edge of the fence with one of those big yellow birds nuzzling its beak into his hair. "The vet at the shelter told me that maybe I should take a class to explain a bit of the difference between domestication and taming, today. And since I don't know many tamed Earth animals, I figured I'd use an example from home. These guys are chocobos."

Kweh! )

By now, Miguel wasn’t holding out much hope for actual, verifiable science in this supposed class. Nevertheless, after everyone sat down, he waved at the video setup at the front of the room. “Part of a movie again this week. Let’s see how they’ve managed to completely ignore physics this time, yeah?” He pressed play.

“Huh.” He blinked. “Okay, that’s not too bad. Shrinking technology has the potential to save a ton on shipping things like food across the globe, as well as allowing for a lot more easy storage. And we already know his contraption’s original weakness was excessive heat generation, so don’t forget to allow for that.”

He programmed in a set of electronics and circuits to start them with. “Let me know if you think you might need anything not here. Let’s try to build a shrink-gun! Hey, if you get it to work, maybe you can use it to hide from your families this weekend.”

Someone was desperately hoping the Crazy Lady wouldn't show up.

Once again, the group was asked to meet in the classroom, which had extra cushioning set out in case anybody's visitors decided to accompany them. The teachers were at the front of the room - Kanan kneeling on the floor, Hera sitting next to him - waiting for people to settle in before getting started.

There was coffee on a table near the door. It wasn't meant to be a bribe for the parents.

Except it was maybe a little bit of a bribe for the parents.

"Welcome back, class," Kanan said, in that tone of voice that was completely relaxed, honest, and really just the act of starting a class with 'welcome back class' was a perfectly casual and normal thing to do, why were you people looking at him that way? "So, in the past few weeks, we've done a few smaller projects. Soup kitchen volunteering, cleaning up litter around the island. This week we're going to ask all of you what you," and possibly your not-at-all-terrifying visitors, "would like us to be doing."

Kanan hated Parents Weekend so much. )
